Position Summary
The Allergy Practice Nurse plays a critical role in delivering safe high-quality patient care in an allergy and immunology clinic. This position supports physicians by administering allergy treatments monitoring patient responses providing patient education and ensuring accurate clinical documentation. The nurse serves as a key clinical resource for patients undergoing diagnostic testing and ongoing allergy therapy.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct nursing care to adult and pediatric patients in an allergy practice setting under the direction of a physician or advanced practice provider
- Administer allergy immunotherapy injections (subcutaneous and/or sublingual) biologic medications and other ordered treatments in accordance with established protocols
- Monitor patients for adverse reactions following injections or testing; promptly recognize and respond to allergic reactions including anaphylaxis per emergency protocols
- Perform and assist with allergy-related diagnostic procedures such as skin prick testing intradermal testing spirometry and peak flow measurements (as applicable to scope of practice)
- Accurately document patient care treatments observations and outcomes in the electronic health record (EHR)
- Review patient histories medications and allergy profiles prior to treatment and alert providers of any concerns or contraindications
- Educate patients and families on allergy conditions treatment plans immunotherapy schedules medication usage and emergency response (e.g. epinephrine auto-injector use)
- Coordinate care by scheduling follow-up appointments tests referrals and treatment plans in collaboration with providers and administrative staff
- Maintain clinical supplies medication storage and injection logs in compliance with regulatory and safety standards
- Adhere to all HIPAA OSHA infection control and clinic policies and procedures
- Provide compassionate patient-centered care in a fast-paced outpatient environment
- Perform other clinical duties as assigned to support clinic operations
What Were Looking For:
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in Michigan in good standing
- Previous clinical nursing experience required; outpatient or specialty practice experience preferred
- Experience in allergy asthma immunology pediatrics or family medicine strongly preferred
- Current CPR/BLS certification required
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Strong clinical assessment and critical-thinking skills
- Ability to recognize and respond to allergic reactions and medical emergencies
- Excellent communication and patient education skills
- High attention to detail with strong documentation accuracy
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team
- Comfort working with pediatric and adult patient populations
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a busy clinical setting
Physical and Working Conditions
- Frequent standing walking and use of hands for clinical procedures
- Occasional lifting of medical supplies and equipment
- Potential exposure to bloodborne pathogens allergens and medications consistent with a healthcare setting
