Job Description
The Henry M. Jackson School of International Studies (JSIS) has an outstanding opportunity for a Communications and Events Specialist to join their team.
The Communications and Events Specialist collaborates with JSIS Programs and Centers to manage and administer events and to provide publicity website and social media design and content creation to support JSIS outreach for student and public engagement. This position reports to the Director of Communications.
Job Duties
Communications & Publicity
Collaborate with a small team to develop comprehensive publicity plans for each Center event
Manage and create publicity of assigned events and related content creation across channels (social media web print flyers)
Generate email newsletters and article summaries including text writing image creation and/or formatting and adherence to guidelines using respective email platforms and best practices
Create and edit content in collaboration with respective centers and programs fact-check copy-edit according to UW editorial and publish to online channels including formatting text images and hyperlinks
Source appropriate online images edit images and hyperlinks
Ongoing review of website content
Administer and maintain livestreaming podcast recording etc.
Editorial & Design Support
Ensure compliance with official brand guidelines and supply approved logos and assets to partners
Event and Travel Support
Manage and plan events and their logistical/administrative aspects (room reservations catering reservations room setup/clean up attendee travel arrangements etc.)
Lead or assist with day-of staffing including branding and logistics
Coordinate submit and track travel reimbursements honoraria payments and vendor payments to JSIS Business Office and CAS Admin Support Team
Produce general correspondence memos reports and other materials as required for event promotion and organizing
Lead setup and troubleshoot AV needs during events
Provide information to students staff program participants and/or public regarding program content policies and activities; recommend alternative courses of action; promote the program on campus with outside organizations
Other Duties as Assigned

Minimum Requirements:
Bachelors degree in communications business international studies or other related fields
2 years experience in communications or a combination of communications and event management
Additional Requirements
Due to the nature of our events some evening and weekend work is required so flexibility is essential.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills both written and verbal
Demonstrated creativity organizational ability and meticulous attention to detail
Ability to work independently problem-solve take initiative set priorities and manage multiple projects efficiently
Ability to pivot to meet high-priority business needs in a professional manner
Desired Qualifications
Asana experience for project/task management
Proficiency in Web Content Management Systems such as WordPress and Drupal
Experience in and/or strong interest in audiovisual technologies with a willingness to become an expert in A/V including livestreaming podcast recording etc.
