The Department
This position is in the Facilities Maintenance and Operations Department (FMO) which strives to provide safe functional and attractive facilities for student staff and community use. NWP takes pride in respecting and preserving its buildings and grounds and this is reflected in the prompt and dedicated service provided by its Facilities Maintenance and Operations team.
The Role
The Seasonal Grounds Worker position is an important member of the Maintenance Team. Under the direction of the Facility Manager and/or the Service Coordinator they perform a wide variety of maintenance tasks with requirements including but not limited to:
- Exterior demand and preventative maintenance:
- operating grounds vehicles & equipment; utility vehicles and their implements and other miscellaneous grounds equipment.
- exterior maintenance tasks including minor repairs signage and equipment maintenance.
- exterior cleaning sweeping garbage pick-up etc.
- snow shoveling and de-icing entrances and walk-ways
- Interior demand and preventative duties:
- assembly and moving of furniture and equipment
- setting up for events
- minor maintenance repairs
- Operation of various hand power tools and othermiscellaneous tools and equipment.
- Other duties as requested.
The hourly wage is $20.35
Typical work hours are Monday to Friday 7:00 am to 3:00 pm (35-hour work week) however there may be occasions when the work schedule may shift and some weekend work may be required. The work schedule will be determined by the Service Coordinator to meet evolving demands and weather conditions.
The position is labour-intensive and may be assigned strenuous physical tasks such as lifting up to 25 .
Environmental conditions: fluctuating temperatures sun snow ice wind & rain.

In addition to the duties as stated above in requirements withinthe role the successful candidate will have the following necessary skills and attributes to be successful:
- must have a valid Class 5 drivers license
- physically fit and a strong work ethic; able to work in heat cold & adverse weather conditions
- adaptable and able to learn new task
- strong organizational and multi-tasking skills
- excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- ability to take direction
- requires good manual dexterity and is expected to be able to operate/learn to operate various hand power tools
- operate equipment in a safe and courteous manner at all times.
