Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role

Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellingtonis currently seekinga qualified and highly motivated Kairuruku - Research Assistantwith ambition to develop their research career within an academic R&D environment and the ability to conceptualise and originatenew ideasthat are outside industry - Robinson Research Institute works closely with commercial partners andcarry out mission-oriented R&Dand you should have the desireto see yourwork implementedwith partners.

Initially you willwork primarily on our government-funded experimental R&D programme investigatingthedevelopmentof low energy CO2 negative iron-based this role you will be supporting this programme aspartof theClean Materials team atPaihau - Robinson Research Institute.

Key responsibilities:

  • Carry out laboratory-based experimental procedures to support materials processing testing and characterisation activities.

  • Prepare cast cure and mechanically test concrete and binder samples in accordance with established protocols.

  • Conduct sample preparation tasks such as grinding sieving and conditioning for subsequent analysis.

  • Support process development and experimental optimisation through systematic testing and documentation.

  • Collaborate with researchers and technical staff to carry out experimental programmes collect data and maintain accurate laboratory records.

Preferred candidate will:

  • Have a relevant tertiary qualification in chemistry ideally in minerals processing and/or chemical engineering.

  • Have a keen interest in advancing technological developments through the application of novel materials and in furthering fundamental understanding in clean and critical minerals science.

  • Bring a positive attitude to staff and students alike and have excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Have excellent communication skills and a passion for detail-orientated work.

  • Have practical implementation skills.

  • Bea strong teamplayer able to work closely with collaborators from multiple partner organisations.

  • Be self-motivated and able to work in a fast-paced environment alongside other high-performing researchers.
