As a Closure Design release Engineer you will lead the development of critical rear-vehicle systems ensuring they meet rigorous safety functional and manufacturing standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design & Development: Responsible for the engineering design development timing and release of rear body closure sheet metal (e.g. liftgates decklids or tailgates) and associated hinging systems.
- Validation: Manage the development and validation of assigned components; communicate technical product status and competitor benchmarking to management.
- Cross-Functional Coordination: Lead packaging coordination with adjacent departments including electromechanical (latches/cinching motors) electrical (harnessing) lighting (taillamps) and interior/exterior trim.
- Virtual Performance: Work closely with virtual validation groups to ensure the CAE scorecard is met and verify manufacturing feasibility.
- Quality Documentation: Maintain and update DVP&R (Design Verification Plan & Report) and DFMEA (Design Failure Mode & Effects Analysis).
- Supplier Management: Support and manage suppliers for quality actions and Value Optimization (VO) activities.
- Collaborative Alignment: Support meetings during NA work hours and collaborate with local engineering Architecture/Vehicle Concepts and program science teams to align iterative models with packaging and system requirements.
Qualifications :
- Education: Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering Electrical
- Engineering or an equivalent ABET-accredited program.
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years of relevant automotive engineering experience.
- Software Proficiency: Advanced knowledge of Unigraphics NX and Teamcenter.
- Technical Expertise: Intermediate to advanced experience in Body-in-White (BIW) Rear Closures or Exterior Systems.
- Materials & Process :
- Experience with composites and composite production processes.
- Experience with steel and aluminum forming processes.
- Knowledge of high-strength steels weld parameters and GD&T.
- Manufacturing: Previous BIW in-plant launch experience is highly preferred.
- Risk Management: Proven experience with DFMEA and DVP&R protocols.
