The City of Johnson City is accepting applications for a Fleet Maintenance Supervisor to work in the Ligh Duty Shop 2nd shift 2:30pm thru 10:30pm. The employee performs difficult skilled and supervisory work in the maintenance repair and overhaul of a variety of gasoline and dieseldriven automotive and specialized equipment; does related work as required. The work of this class involves responsibility for directing the repair and maintenance activities of the motor transport garage and staff. An employee in this class as well as exercising supervision may be called upon to perform technical work in the repair and maintenance of automotive equipment. General supervision involving discussions of unusual work problems and scheduling of the more important overhaul and repair undertakings is received from an administrative supervisor; however only a minimum of supervision is exercised over an employee in this class. Supervision is exercised over subordinate mechanics servicemen and other skilled semiskilled and unskilled workers. Work is performed under the supervision of the Motor Transport Director.
Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities: Thorough knowledge of the construction assembly adjustment and maintenance of a wide variety of light and heavy automotive equipment; thorough knowledge of the standard methods practices tools and equipment of the automotive mechanics trade; thorough knowledge of the use of various types of shop tools such as drills presses grinders and micrometers; thorough knowledge of the uses of instruments employed in testing the operation of heavy duty automotive equipment such as ammeters voltmeters compression gauges and motor and exhaust analyzers; thorough knowledge of the principles of internal combustion engines; thorough knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety practices of internal combustion engines; thorough knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety practices of the trade; ability to diagnose defects in automotive equipment and to instruct subordinates in approved techniques for remedying them; ability to plan and supervise the work of skilled semiskilled and unskilled workers; ability to keep records files and related documents necessary to the operation of an automotive repair and maintenance unit. Dexterity to operate machinery.
Acceptable Experience and Training: Completion of high school or GED preferably supplemented by trade school or dealer courses in automotive mechanics and extensive journeyman level experience in light and heavy duty automotive equipment repair and maintenance work at the level of Automotive Mechanic including considerable supervisory experience; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge skills and abilities. Possession of a valid commercial drivers license issued by the State of Tennessee. Pre-employment physical drug screening and background check required.
