The Department of Dance in the Peck School of the Arts is hiring an innovative dance artistscholar and educator with embodiedexpertiseineither Contemporary Ballet and/or Hip Hop/Urbandance forms to teach across our curricula. Thevisitingfaculty will teach undergraduate courses inContemporary Ballet and/or Hip Hop/Urbandance practices as well asundergraduate and graduatecourses indance theory dance history and/or dancestudies. They may teach other related courses through the lens of theirexpertiseincludingcomposition improvisation student repertory creation and/or somatic courses. The candidate shoulddemonstratea commitment to equity and inclusion in their teaching and an ability to make cross-disciplinary connections in theircoursecontent.
Responsibilities ofvisitingdance faculty includeteaching undergraduate and graduate courseschoreographing forfaculty/guest concerts and contributing to department college and university service that includes recruitment outreach mentorship and faculty additionvisitingfaculty willmaintainacademic and/or creative research and professional engagement with local state and national associations.
The Department of Dance invites applications for an Assistant Visiting Professor position in Dance to begin Fall 2026. This position is a one-year appointment with the potential for further renewal.
Employment Agreement: Beginning and Ending Dates of Appointment: August 24 2026 through May 23 2027. This fixed-term academic staff appointment is only for the period of time specified in this letter however the appointment may be renewed for up to additional two academic years. Per Admin. Code sec. UWS 10.05(1)(a) and Chapter 108 of UWMs Academic Staff Personnel Policies and Procedures (ASPPP) no further notice of nonrenewal will be given except as required under Chapter 108 of the ASPPP.)

The Peck School is Wisconsins leading comprehensive arts education institution. The schools alumni in the fields of art and design dance film music and theatre have played influential roles in arts organizations schools and businesses particularly in Milwaukee and Wisconsin but also across the country and throughout the world fornearly 50years. The school also offers more than 350dance music and theatre performances film screenings and art exhibitions each year and has extensive partnerships throughout its community and region. This year about 1870 studentsundergraduate graduate and certificatestudied and worked with 70 faculty and 170 instructional staff membersinthe Peck School.
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:
Our faculty engage in dance practice scholarship and mentorship that is committed to interdisciplinary research community engagement and social justice. Our innovative curriculum integrates multiple dance disciplines and somatic practices creating a learning environment that prioritizes a balance of body and mind knowledge with informed creative practice and expression. The faculty strive tolocateour research and curricular material in socio-cultural and historical contexts. The Department of Dance produces four dance concerts peryearand mentors approximately 55 undergraduate dance majors 12 graduate students and41dance minors. We offer the following programs of study: BA in Dance BFA in Performance and Choreography MFA in Dance Dance Performance Minor SomaticsCertificate and African and Diaspora Dance FormsMicrocredential. to $65000. Final salary offer will be determined based on qualifications and experience.
