Epicentres legal work is currently carried out by two legal advisors specialised in medical research and business law who are technically attached to MSFs Intersectional Legal Department (ILD).
The ILDs mission is to provide support and legal analysis to the various entities around the world that make up the MSF Movement (e.g. on international humanitarian law registration taxes medico-legal issues medical research medical innovation responsible use and sharing of data labour law commercial law trademarks and international governance). The ILD is divided into 6 units. Unit 6 is dedicated to medical research innovation and data.
Job description:
You will be part of Epicentre staff and reporting hierarchically to the Epicentre senior legal advisor.
You will be part of ILD Unit 6 working under the technical supervision of its comanagers.
Your main role will be to autonomously provide legal advice and support for Epicentres research innovation and data and activities alongside the senior legal advisor. You will work in close collaboration with Epicentre and MSF teams (in France and abroad) as well as other legal advisors in the ILD.
Your main tasks:
- Negotiating drafting proofreading and analysing of research innovation and data related contracts frames and legal risks. For example:
- Funding contracts
- Consortium agreements
- Industrialisation/ production agreements Memoranda of understanding (with the ministries of health/ national authorities in the countries where the medical research is being carried out or local representatives of health zones etc.) and letters of agreement
- Research collaboration agreement
- Material Transfer Agreement
- Data Sharing Agreement
- Confidentiality agreements consultancy contracts donation certificates service provider and other ad hoc contracts
Technical legal support as requested by Epicentre on responsible data use/ data protection/ privacy (in collaboration with Epicentres DPO).
- Provision of tools and advice (model contracts and clauses practical guides legal notes and training) in collaboration with the technical managers and other relevant members of the ILD.
Qualifications :
Education / Diploma :
- Master degree in business law or medical research law
Professional experience :
- At least 5 years experience as a legal advisor ideally in a medical research non-for-profit organisation law firm or company with international activities.
- Experience in common law is desirable.
- Strong interest in medical research and the protection of medical data (including GDPR) and a very good experience of contract drafting and negotiation techniques.
Knowledge and Skills :
- Analyse/synthesise/draft/communicate
- Adapt to atypical situations and different cultural contexts
- Integrate and work with multidisciplinary and multicultural teams
- Organising priorities.
Language :
- C1 level in french and English
Additional Information :
Specificity of the position :
- Full-time open end contract
- The position is based in Paris and may involve occasional travel abroad.
- Start date: Once possible.

Level 8 on Epicentre/MSF Salary grid paid on 13 months
