Department Overview
Doernbecher (DCH) 9S Pediatric Acute Care Surgical (PACS) is a 24-bed unit providing evidence-based acute care for pediatric patients and their families from birth to young adulthood. Services that admit to DCH 9S PACS include and are not limited to: General Surgery Orthopedics Cardiology Cardiothoracic Surgery ENT Plastics Urology Nephrology Endocrinology Gastroenterology and General Peds overflow.

Function/Duties of Position
DCH 9S PACS faces all endeavors with a growth mindset and a people-centered approach to provide excellent care to our patients and support a healthy workplace. Our Mission: DCH 9S PACS is a people-centered interdisciplinary team-based system of coordinated patient care. The team will provide individualized excellent care for all pediatric patients by working together with departments and specialists across Doernbecher and OHSU to ensure every patient and family receive the right care at the right place and at the right time by the right people.
The OHSU registered nurse (RN) provides compassionate evidence-based and efficient care to individuals families communities and patient populations. The RNs care delivery is consistent with the Oregon Nurse Practice Act the ANA Scope and Standards of Practice and the ANA Code of Ethics. The RN demonstrates the professional role obligations of scientist leader practitioner and knowledge transferor ORourke Model of the Professional Role. Professional accountability enriches the Clinical RNs engagement as a leader in promoting an inter-professional culture of collaborative decision-making innovation life-long learning and teamwork.The RN exemplifies the principles of a Culture of Safety by committing to a Just Culture a Reporting Culture Learning Culture and an Engaged Informed Culture.
Required Qualifications
- BSN Graduates: Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing from a program accredited by Commission of Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (CNEA) 30 days before start date.
- ADN Graduates: Associate Degree in Nursing from an accredited program 30 days before the start date.
- Associate degree Nurses required to enroll in BSN program within 3 years of hire and complete within 5 years of hire
- Current unencumbered Oregon State Registered Nurse License
- BLS and PALS from AHA required. New hires will be enrolled and required to complete during orientation.
- Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation
Preferred Qualifications
- 2 years inpatient pediatric RN experience
- Pediatric cardiac experience preferred
- Pediatric surgical experience preferred
- CPN certification or other applicable pediatric specialty certification
Additional Details
Length of Orientation New Graduate Nurse
- External candidates: OHSU & Nursing New Employee Orientation (NEO) for about a week.
- Either Transition to Practice (TTP) Program Residency Learning Pathway or Orientation experience for about 10-26 weeks depending on the care area. An employment service agreement may apply.
Length of Orientation Experienced Nurse
- External candidates: OHSU & Nursing New Employee Orientation (NEO) for about a week.
- Either Transition to Practice (TTP) Program Specialty Fellowship/Fellowship Learning Pathway or Orientation experience for 3 days-26 weeks depending on the care area. An employment service agreement may apply.
