Job Summary

JOB SUMMARY:

The Food Production Assistant position is a farm work and community engagement position. The position requires the ability to efficiently stay on task in a fast-paced and exciting environment. The Food Production Assistant supports the Food Production team by: assisting in the maintenance of vegetable planting harvesting and distribution at The Hope Garden Bloom Community Food Center and Lookout Farm and assisting in community engagement programs at each of these sites.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be able to work in the field including repetitive physical work in extreme weather conditions.
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.
  • Must work well with persons of varied sexual preference racial ethnic cultural socioeconomic backgrounds and with individuals who are differently-abled.
  • Must be highly organized motivated and remain flexible under pressure. Attention to detail and ability to organize and set priorities are a must. Must be motivated to complete tasks in an efficient and thorough manner.
  • Previous experience with food growing desired.
  • Demonstrate good verbal and written communication skills and have the ability to organize/direct diverse people.
  • If 18 years old or older must be able to pass a national background check.
  • No transportation provided. Must be able to transport self to job sites.


DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Work with Food Production team to:

Farm/Garden

  • Prepare planting areas plant maintain fertility manage pests weed harvest wash and bag produce and more.
  • Assist with additional projects as needed. Examples include small construction projects and repairs to equipment.

Volunteer Coordination

  • Coordinate and work alongside Spanish speaking volunteers during public volunteer sessions
  • Promote The Hunger Coalition values throughout engagement with community members.

Community Education

  • Work with school groups summer camps and other community groups seeking tours and educational interactions in the gardens.


HOURS:

Part-time up to 25 hrs/week starting mid-May October. Mornings with 1-2 two weekday evenings required and occasional half-days on the weekends.


SALARY:
$26.00 per hour
