Job Summary

The Director of Safety and Risk will develop coordinate and implement occupational health policies and procedures to promote and ensure effective safety operations and regulations of Cooperative Farmers Elevator in accordance with rules policies goals and objectives established by the COO CEO and the Board of Directors.

Requirements

Position Responsibilities

The Director of Safety and Risk is responsible for the overall management of safety and compliance in CFE including the training of employees portray the safety culture within the company to all employees working for CFE and work with insurance carriers to manage and reduce claims.


Supervision

Supervision involves establishing and communicating goals and results to location managers and employees actively supporting employee growth upholding cooperative policies and all regulations see that all training is up to date and monthly meetings are held and attended.


Safety and Compliance

  • Train and educate employees in job safety awareness health hazards and teach them methods of reducing and/or eliminating those hazards.
  • Coordinate new employee safety orientations and existing employees ongoing training.
  • Compliance monitoring conduct periodic location inspections regarding housekeeping equipment and machinery conditions environmental concerns DOT records and all other safety related issues.
  • Documentation maintain system to produce safety records and documentation required by CFE state and federal regulations. Conduct reviews to ensure systems are being used effectively.
  • Communicate requirements communicate with management safety staff and employees to keep all locations up to date and current regarding changes in safety regulations and programs.
  • Coordinate safety committee schedule and organize meetings to keep committee members focused on issues assigned to them. Document progress and communications as needed.
  • Lead efforts to continually improve the processes by implementing procedures that improve safety environment and compliance management.
  • Assist management on the safety of all facility improvement projects.
  • Facilitate relationships with local regulatory personnel and agencies. Meet with enforcement personnel when they inspect facilities. Provide compliance information and respond to any concerns.
  • Lead efforts to correct any environment safety and health problems identified by insurance representation or internal reviews. Refer issues regarding capital expenditures employee discipline operational changes etc. to management.
  • Manage and order proper PPE for CFE.
  • Help Coordinate the return to work process to help reduce CFE cost.
  • Be ready to respond to all emergency incidents at all times.

Insurance

  • Work with COO CFO CEO and insurance company to identify adequate coverage levels.
  • Work with claims for CFE in dealing with insurance carrier along with COO and department head involved.

Other Duties

  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.
  • Favorable feedback is received from all department managers when assigned to perform or assist with other duties and responsibilities in those departments.
  • Attitude consistently mirrors the company image and promotes fellow employee teamwork.
  • Present a professional image through words actions and personal appearance.

Required Skills/Abilities

  • Excellent knowledge of OSHA standards and federal safety legislation
  • Solid knowledge of potentially hazardous materials or practices in the workplace
  • Familiarity with writing health and safety policies and procedures
  • Proficiency in conducting data analysis and reporting statistics
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and Excel software.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects at a time and demonstrate good attention to detail.
  • Must have a strong knowledge of an agricultural elevator and their operations

Education and Experience

  • Bachelors degree in safety management environmental safety or similar field.
  • At least five years of occupational health and safety experience in an industrial environment required.
