The BioMedical Engineering and Imaging Institute (BMEII) at The Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow to implement and analyze novel ultrahigh field MRI of the brain for applications in cognitive impairment and Alzheimers disease. Specifically the imaging data will be acquired analyzed and quantified in conjunction with gut microbiome measurements obtained at our collaborative site University of Missouri in order to study the gut-brain axis in MCI and AD. This is an excellent opportunity to conduct innovative imaging research as a member of a team of technical and clinical experts with access to state-of-the-art imaging equipment housed at the Hess Center for Science and Medicine in New York City ( The position will be based in the Neuroimaging group mentored by Dr. Priti Balchandani Director of the Advanced Neuroimaging Research Program. Close collaboration with Dr. Ai-Ling Lin and her team at University of Missouri will provide exposure to preclinical research and gut microbiome analysis techniques.
Position responsibilities include independent research contributions to publications and grants and leadership roles within the Institute. The candidate will primarily work on implementation of MRI acquisition and analysis methods at 7 Tesla (7T) and on translational research integrating MRI data gut microbiome metrics and blood markers. Prior experience with gut microbiome analysis is not required. The work will consist of image acquisition on patients and healthy volunteers and post-processing of imaging data. Involvement in and organization of patient recruitment with study coordinator will be needed. Some experience in integration of multiple streams of data and an interest in exploring machine learning to perform integrated data analysis is preferred. Expectations also include effective communication and serving as a liaison between teams at BMEII and the University of Missouri. The postdoctoral fellow is also encouraged to develop their own research projects within the mission areas of the BMEII.
