Job Summary

SUMMARY

Northline Seafoods is seeking Tank Operators for the 2026 salmon season in Bristol Bay Alaska. The primary season runs from mid-June through mid-August though additional pre-season work in Bellingham Washington may be available prior to deployment to Alaska. This role also offers the potential for continued year-round employment in Bellingham from August through May for strong performers.

Tank Operators work in the pump room aboard the Hannah and are responsible for a variety of operational and monitoring tasks related to fish handling and processing systems. This position is based aboard a stationary floating processing facility anchored near Dillingham Alaska and requires individuals who are comfortable working in a fast-paced industrial seafood processing environment.

Important Travel Note: As of May 7 2025 a REAL ID-compliant identification is required for domestic air travel including flights to Alaska. Candidates must be able to meet this requirement prior to hire.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Maintain continuous flow of fish from holding tanks to production
  • Assist in monitoring holding tanks to ensure quality standards are met
  • Push and clear final fish from holding tanks
  • Sanitize holding tanks and pump room on a regular schedule
  • Perform preventative maintenance on pump room machinery
  • Verify proper operation of paddles pumps and valves
  • Assist the Tank Manager as directed
  • Maintain a clean organized and safe pump room
  • Work safely in confined spaces and follow all safety procedures
  • Perform other duties as assigned including:
    • Keeping pump room bilges clean and free of standing water
    • Assisting in repairs
    • Tracking and organizing tools

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 18 years old
  • Authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Must be able to routinely work 12 hour shifts and occasionally 16 hour shifts during peak season
  • Comfortable working in confined spaces including confined-space rescue environments
  • Minimum 1 year of experience (maintenance experience or machine operation)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Basic working knowledge of HMI/SCADA systems
  • Knowledge of VFDs
  • Basic computer skills (Microsoft Excel Word Google Docs etc.)
  • Effective interpersonal communication skills
  • Effective written communication (email)
  • Proficient with UHF radio communication
  • Basic mechanical background with hands-on troubleshooting skills
  • Basic PVC repair and construction skills (plumbing experience a plus)

This role is based primarily aboard a stationary floating processing facility anchored near Dillingham Alaska with the potential for year-round employment during reprocessing operations in Bellingham Bellingham work may also be performed dockside and on the waterfront in an active marine industrial environment. Work takes place in wet cold and physically demanding environments. The position requires regular use of hand tools (wrenches screwdrivers prybars etc.) and power tools (angle grinders power drills portable bandsaws etc.). Employees must be able to safely navigate slippery and uneven surfaces work extended shifts of 1216 hours including nights lift up to 50 pounds independently and up to 100 pounds with assistance work in small confined spaces climb stairs and ladders and be able to swim.
