DescriptionReporting to the Senior Director of Education within the Department of Spiritual Care and Education the Chaplain Educator Candidate (CEC) moves through the Application Phase 1 and Phase 2 stages to complete certification as an Association for Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE) Certified Educator. With each stage the Chaplain Educator Candidate is assigned progressive levels of responsibility within MSHSs ACPE program. This role includes engagement with all aspects of the Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) program including didactic preparation and teaching individual and group supervision recruitment and interviewing program administration accreditation activities and continuous quality improvement. With a dotted line to the Director of the Department of Spiritual Care and Education at Mount Sinai Hospital the Chaplain Educator Candidate spends approximately one day per week engaged in patient-facing clinical care at MSH. The Chaplain Educator Candidate demonstrates a sustained commitment to rigorous clinical and educational training including supervised clinical practice documentation of ACPE competencies and completion of academic essays.
Responsibilities- Participate as a trainee in the ACPEs Certified Educator Candidate program engaging incompletingtheory paper requirements and Phase 1 and 2 competencies; actively engages in individual and group supervisionas well asparticipation in apeer group.
- Observe andeventuallyparticipateinteachingofCPE interns and residents in group and individual settings. This includes curriculum development teaching didactics providing clinical supervision and writing final evaluations with progressive levels of responsibility.
- Recruit interview andselectstudents in partnership with the Senior Director of Education.
- Partner with clinical directors andchaplainpreceptors to support students learning andmaintainappropriate clinicalplacements.
- Maintain compliance with allACPEaccreditationstandards.
- Contribute toaccreditationactivities continuous quality improvement andthe workof theCPE Advisory Committee
- Collaboratewith the Senior Director of Education on the administrative management of the CPE program and the on-call schedule.
- Serve in the administrator-on-call (AOC) rotation andprovideson-call coverage as needed.
- Demonstrate mastery in chaplaincy knowledge and skillsprovide spiritual carein assigned clinicalareas andbuild andmaintainrelationships with clinical and support staff.
- Adhere to all Mount Sinai Health System standards policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications- Masters degree in divinity theology or a related field
- Successful completion of four units of Clinical Pastoral Education in an accreditedACPEprogram
- Minimum of two years of chaplaincy experience with a demonstratedtrack recordas an effective spiritual care provider
- Minimum of oneyear of experience in a healthcare setting
