The UAB Heersink School of Medicine and School of Engineering are seeking applications for Chair Department of Biomedical Engineering. The Chair reports to and works closely with the Deans of the School of Engineering and Heersink School of Medicine and the Senior Vice Dean Heersink School of Medicine to fulfill both UABs and the departments mission to improve health care by making scientific discoveries solving problems advancing technology and preparing graduates to succeed in the evolving fields of biomedical engineering and biotechnology. Required/Preferred Qualifications: 1. Ph.D. M.D. or M.D./ Ph.D. 2. Academic rank of Professor. 3. Accomplished leader in the field of Biomedical Engineering. 4. Strong ability to work collaboratively with leaders of various backgrounds and interests. 5. Competency navigating interactions with educational research and service missions of a complex joint department of the School of Medicine and School of Engineering. 6. Proven capabilities in financial stewardship budget management and resource allocation. 7. Compelling vision for building an internationally recognized research-oriented department of biomedical engineering which is a top choice for undergraduate and graduate education. 8. Qualities: Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills. Exhibits a style that supports change and innovation with an ability to delegate yet maintain overall control. Commitment to research and educational missions. A genuine appreciation for consultation and collaboration. Personal style that fosters and supports innovation. Responsibilities: The Chair of the Department of Biomedical Engineering will support the Schools mission and vision through the creation of novel strategies to sustain and grow the Department and continue to enhance the mission areas of research and education. S/he will assess gaps within those mission areas and identify future opportunities and needs. Provide strategic leadership for all aspects of the Department including the positive representation of the Department within the Heersink School of Medicine School of Engineering and the UAB enterprise creating collaboration opportunities and working in support of institutional goals.
