About the Team/Service/ Location

Join a dedicated team at Tairawhiti where we prioritize health and well-being for our elderly population. We are seeking an experienced Geriatrician to play a pivotal role in our healthcare community working alongside a diverse general medical team and Te Ara Tiaki Pakeke (Healthy Aging Team).

About you

  • Medical degree and board certification in Geriatrics or equivalent.
  • Proven experience in geriatric medicine with strong clinical skills in managing complex cases.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively work with patients families and healthcare teams.
  • Commitment to holistic patient care and a passion for improving the quality of life for the elderly.
  • A collaborative mindset and ability to thrive in a multidisciplinary environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide in-hospital consultative services for both surgical and medical services including orthopedic patients and complex geriatric cases requiring capacity and pre-operative frailty assessments.
  • Oversee a dedicated rehabilitation team managing an 8-bed unit ensuring high standards of care and rehabilitation outcomes.
  • Serve as the Lead Clinician for the Te Ara Tiaki Pakeke (Healthy Aging Team) driving initiatives and strategies that promote healthy aging within the community.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to enhance patient care and develop comprehensive treatment plans.
  • Engage in clinical audits and quality improvement activities to ensure excellence in geriatric care.
  • Participate in the teaching and training of junior medical staff and allied health professionals.
