One challenge for public infrastructures studies is that insufficiently controlled structural design of marine infrastructures in compliance with Eurocodes can result in failures of critical assets such as quay walls locks or breakwaters leading to major safety hazards operational downtime and significant financial exposure.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
Our service is to bring assistance with a Consultant in the context of large-scale marine and waterway infrastructure projects within a major engineering consultancy where the role sits at the intersection of multidisciplinary design coordination client-facing technical delivery and structured project execution across all design phases.
The key responsibilities expected from our on-site delegate might include:
Coordination Communication & Stakeholder Management:
- Take the design lead for one or part of a large marine infrastructure project
- Take a role as principal engineer and coordinate and coach junior engineers and CAD designers
- Liaise between different design teams and enhance an integrated design process by looking transversally over the disciplines involved taking the project from concept design through to completion
- Communicate with the client and external partners on the technical design in a constructive way
- Assist the tender manager in establishing attractive and innovative offers
- Report to the team manager
Monitoring Assessment & Rational Analysis:
- Follow up evolutions in construction methods to optimise the design with an open mind for innovative and alternative solutions
- Be responsible for the follow-up of progress quality and performance of the project executed by the team
- Keep up with standards new techniques and developments in the discipline
Technical Execution & Delivery:
- Dimension marine infrastructure projects following current Belgian and European standards legislation codes of practice and internal guidelines
- Prepare designs (preliminary basis tender detailed) for marine structures such as port and waterways development studies: port master planning locks quay walls jetties bridge foundations flooding areas dikes breakwaters
- Develop technical skills in relevant engineering software (SCIA Engineer DSheet Piling Ansys Plaxis ...)
Profile:
- Masters degree in Civil Engineering with a preference for options in Dredging and Offshore Engineering or Construction Design; a bachelors degree in Civil Engineering Technologies followed by a masters in Civil Engineering (Construction / Dredging) is also considered
- Experience in structural calculation work including concrete steel and/or geotechnics; background in hydraulic engineering is not mandatory experience in structures bridges tunnels or buildings is equally relevant
- Knowledge of Eurocodes is mandatory
- Experience with competitive bidding and active participation in the commercial phase is an asset
- Based in Flanders with willingness to work on-site in Ghent Antwerp or Ostend
- Dutch-speaking with the ability to independently write calculation notes in Dutch
- An entrepreneurial experience or ambition is a plus (extra-professional or extra-academic as well)
- Immediate availability is preferred
- Valid single permit for non-EU citizens
