Job Overview
We are looking for a detail-oriented Vessel Accountant who will be responsible for maintaining accurate accounting records for a portfolio of vessels and managing financial reporting in coordination with ship owners and internal stakeholders. The role involves overseeing day-to-day accounting operations preparing financial reports and ensuring compliance with reporting requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the day-to-day accounting activities for an assigned portfolio of vessels including fund requests invoice verification portage bill review and month-end adjustment entries.
- Review vendor invoices from an accounting perspective and validate portage bills received from vessels.
- Prepare and submit monthly vessel financial reports including cash flow statements and budget variance analyses to technical departments and vessel owners within the required timelines.
- Perform monthly balance sheet account reconciliations and fund balance reconciliations for assigned vessels.
- Ensure timely and accurate submission of financial reports to ship owners while addressing any financial queries from vessel owners and technical teams.
- Maintain effective communication with clients and internal stakeholders to ensure financial reporting requirements are properly understood and met.
- Support the reporting manager in monthly management reporting activities including reports for senior leadership and budget variance analysis.
- Work collaboratively with finance managers and other departments providing solutions-oriented recommendations while ensuring compliance with financial reporting standards.
- Perform other ad-hoc reporting tasks and accounting duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting Finance or a related field.
- At least 4 years of experience in core accounting and financial report preparation. Experience in the shipping or maritime industry is an advantage but not required.
- Strong understanding of financial statements cash flow reporting and budget vs. actual analysis.
- Experience using ERP systems such as Oracle SAP or similar platforms is preferred.
- Exposure to digital finance tools or automation solutions (e.g. accounting automation invoicing workflows PowerBI Tableau) is a plus.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications particularly Excel Outlook and Word.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
