Your role and responsibilities

As a Performance & Data Analyst in our Performance and Improvement Team youll help transform complex operational data into insight that supports Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service to perform at its best.

This is a hands-on analytical role where youll balance data analysis with the design of intuitive self-service dashboards. Youll help colleagues across the service understand performance monitor progress and make confident evidence-based decisions.

On a typical day you might:

  • Analyse performance and operational data to identify trends risks and opportunities.
  • Build and develop clear user-friendly dashboards in Power BI that colleagues can use independently.
  • Support the adoption of self-service reporting and help improve data literacy across teams.
  • Work closely with the Performance and Improvement Manager to compile reports and monitor action plans.
  • Carry out data validation and quality checks to ensure reporting is accurate and reliable.
  • Use Microsoft tools such as Excel Lists Forms and SharePoint to streamline data collection and improve processes.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement work by turning insight into practical recommendations.
  • Provide analytical and quality assurance support helping build resilience across key reporting activities.

Your work will directly support internal performance management statutory reporting and service improvement. The insight you provide will help shape decisions that impact communities across Suffolk

You will need

Were looking for someone who enjoys working with data but also understands that insight only matters if people can use it.

We hope youll bring:

  • Experience in a data analysis performance or improvement-focused role.
  • Strong skills in Power BI Excel and SQL.
  • Experience creating dashboards that are clear intuitive and accessible.
  • Confidence explaining complex information in a simple engaging way.
  • A methodical approach to data quality accuracy and governance.
  • The ability to manage your own workload and meet deadlines.
  • A proactive mindset: someone who spots opportunities to improve processes rather than waiting to be asked.

A Level 5 qualification in a relevant area (or equivalent knowledge and experience) is desirable.

Experience working with performance frameworks KPIs or within a public sector or emergency service environment would be beneficial; but its not essential. If youre motivated analytical and keen to make a difference we encourage you to apply even if you dont meet every single requirement.

The team

The Performance and Improvement Team plays a vital role in supporting Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service. We collect validate and interpret data that informs internal performance management and statutory reporting to organisations such as MHCLG (Ministry of Housing Communities and Local Government) NFCC (National Fire Chiefs Council) and HMICFRS (His Majesties Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire & Rescue Services).

This is a hybrid role offering flexibility between home working and time in SFRS locations. While hybrid working is supported we encourage regular time in the office to help you build relationships collaborate across departments and develop a strong understanding of how different teams operate. Spending time on site will help you connect with colleagues and maximise the impact of your work.
