Position Summary:
The Part-Time morning Long-Term Substitute HSE Math Teacher will be primarily responsible for raising the Math levels and preparing students to pass the High School Equivalency Math subject test. The Math Teacher will be serving a class of approximately 20-25 adult students. Students range in age and previous education; English is the second language for some of our students. To this end The Math teacher is responsible for teaching a range of Math topics. Experience teaching Math to adult learners is required. It is essential that the Math teacher has had training in and successful experience teaching explicit Math strategies.
The teacher will collaborate closely with the Director and Program Administrator to ensure program goals are met. The teacher must collect and submit attendance records document student progress and assist with other DESE-related activities.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities
The responsibilities listed below reflect the primary duties of the position; the omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the role. Additional responsibilities that are similar related or a logical assignment to the position may be assigned as needed to meet program legal or operational needs.
- Prepare lesson plans and choose appropriate materials following the ABE Departments Curriculum Guidelines and MA DESE College and Career Readiness Standards and submit one lesson plan per month.
- Attend and participate in monthly staff meetings department meetings and appropriate in-service workshops.
- Evaluate student progress and make placement recommendations as required by department policy/procedures.
- Complete attendance and assessment-related activities as required by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE).
- Work effectively with other teachers counselor(s) the program administrator and Director on student and program issues.
- Follow department policy/procedures regarding substitutes and substitute lesson plans. Integrate digital literacy into instruction including using Aztec software for additional practice.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university
- Minimum of three (3) years of adult classroom teaching experience including at least one full year teaching adult immigrants
- Demonstrated experience using learner-centered instructional approaches and integrated skills instruction
Preferred Qulaifications:
- Masters degree in Education or Adult Literacy
- Massachusetts Teacher Certification
- BEST Plus and TABE-e Writing certification

Work Period:March 2026 June 2026
Schedule:2 morningsper week
Location: SCALE
Hours:6 instructional hours per week; 1.5 preparation hours per week
Monthly meetings 4:00pm 6:00 p.m.

FLSA Status:Non-Exempt
Benefits:Not benefits eligible (part-time grant-funded position)
Salary:In accordance with the SEU Unit D collective bargaining agreement
