Job Summary

WIC (Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women Infants and Children) is a a US federal assistance program providing nutritious food nutrition education breastfeeding support and healthcare referrals. It services low-income pregnant postpartum and breastfeeding women plus infants and children under age five who are at nutritional risk.
This is a 40 hours per week job. Monday Wednesday and Thursday 8 am to 5 pm. Tuesday 10 am - 7 pm and Friday 8 am - 2 pm
Summary:
As a WIC Clinic Assistant you will uphold our Mission Vision and Values. This position is responsible for assisting with the application and screening of WIC applicants issuance of WIC EBT cards and maintaining records related to clinic activities.
Responsibilities (How this position enhances our Mission Vision and Values)
Mission Improve the Quality of Life of Others:
  • Answer multiple telephone lines in a timely manner.
  • Schedule appointments.
  • Reschedule missed appointments for prenatal participants classes individual nutrition educations and benefit issuances.
  • Maintains documents files.
  • Completes various WIC-related reports.
  • Work at the Elwood satellite clinic.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
Vision ODHS preferred partner in East Central Indiana for improving the well-being of individuals and the communities in which they live:
  • Obtain necessary documentation from applicants to begin the certification process.
  • Screen applicants for eligibility (identity/residency/income) and document required information.
  • Complete anthropometric measurements (weight height hemoglobin) as assigned.
  • Enter information into the WIC ADP system.
  • Offer clients the opportunity to register to vote.
  • Provide written information to clients regarding Hoosier Healthwise SNAP TANF and make other social services referrals as appropriate.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
  • Keep the coordinator/assistant coordinator informed of potential scheduling issues.
  • Issue and give instructions on use of the WIC EBT card and online WIC app.
  • Issue food benefits and shopping lists to clients.
  • Explain rights responsibilities and sanctions to clients.
  • May work as a Voter Registration Coordinator if assigned
  • Administrators privileges if assigned
  • Orders supplies and take inventory as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
  • High School diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Minimum of 1 year experience working with the public in an office setting preferred.
  • Bilingual preferred

Physical and Environmental Requirements:
  • Frequent exposure to communicable diseases toxic substances medicinal preparations and other conditions common to clinic environment. Tasks involve contact with blood or body substances.
  • Requires standing walking or sitting for long periods of time.
  • Occasional bending stretching or lifting up to 40 pounds.
  • Requires the ability to work under stressful situations.
  • Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range or use of approved adaptive equipment.
