Full time 40 hours/week evenings
With a commitment to patient- and family-centered care the assistant nurse manager works with the nurse manager and provides oversight for patient care and nursing services on their assigned unit and shift. They promote quality evidence-based care and patient satisfaction in a fiscally responsive manner. The assistant nurse manager collaborates with the nurse manager in assessment and planning for nursing care. She/he assists in leading the daily operations of the unit. Acts as a resource lead and clinical role model for the patient care team. Advances and oversees patient care standards of the unit for the designated shift. Facilitates and coordinates patient care delivery and flow through the continuum of care. She/he carries out the responsibilities of the nurse manager in her/his absence with guidance from the Administrative Director. The Assistant Nurse Manager participates in hiring and evaluation of staff. The Assistant Nurse Manager collaborates with the multidisciplinary team to ensure effective operations of the nursing unit. She/he supports nursing professional development Magnet and Shared Governance through participation in and mentoring of colleagues on councils and the Clinical Ladder program

Knowledge Skills and Abilities - Required

  • Effective Communication- Understanding of effective communication concepts tools and techniques ability to effectively transmit receive and accurately interpret ideas information and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors. Uses the language of partnership with patients and families engaging them in their health and health care.
  • Patient-and Family-Centered Practice- Knowledge of how to convey respect and collaborate with each patient family and/or designated care partner in care.
  • Cultural Awareness- Knowledge of people with diverse backgrounds and the ability to convey respect and connect effectively.
  • Care Coordination Knowledge of the medical social economic and other services provided by other departments or facilities and the ability to integrate these multidisciplinary treatments for optimal patient care.
  • Patient Safety Knowledge of the risks faced by patients in a healthcare environment and the ability to take steps to reduce these risks.
  • Medication Administration and Prescription Knowledge of various medications used to treat patients ability to apply this knowledge to the administration of medications and to the prescription of drugs for continuing treatment outside of the hospital.
  • Discharge Planning Knowledge of the patients post-discharge needs and the ability to consider these needs in planning for discharge and arranging for follow-up care.
  • Assessment and Diagnosis Knowledge of various tools and techniques for patient assessment and nursing diagnosis or clinical judgement ability to explore and analyze reasons behind symptoms and generate resolutions according to available drugs facilities and techniques.
  • Health Information Documentation Knowledge of the relevance of health information and appropriate documentation methods ability to record medical histories symptoms vital signs medications diagnoses treatment plans procedures tests and medical results in written or electronic form

Licenses and Certifications - Required

  • ACLS - Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support - American Heart Association and
  • PALS - Pediatric Advanced Life Support - American Heart Association
  • BLS - Basic Life Support AHA - American Heart Association
  • RN - Licensed Registered NursePA - State of Pennsylvania
