Job Summary

Cost Accounting Analyst

Position Summary:
The Cost Accounting Analyst is responsible for analyzing tracking and reporting on costs associated with production operations and business activities. This role supports strategic decision-making by providing insights into cost efficiency variance analysis and financial performance. The ideal candidate has strong analytical skills attention to detail and a solid understanding of accounting principles. Duties entail:

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Analyze and monitor standard costs actual costs and variances.
  2. Prepare and maintain cost accounting records reports and reconciliations.
  3. Conduct variance analysis (material labor overhead) and provide actionable insights.
  4. Assist in the development and maintenance of standard costing systems.
  5. Support monthly quarterly and annual financial close processes.
  6. Collaborate with operations and supply chain teams to understand cost drivers.
  7. Perform inventory analysis including valuation and reconciliation.
  8. Identify opportunities for cost savings and process improvements.
  9. Prepare financial models and forecasts related to cost structures.
  10. Ensure compliance with internal controls accounting standards and company policies.
  1. Provide support to Finance staff and assist in resolving issues that arise in these areas with minimal supervision
  2. Assist in Sarbanes Oxley compliance activities. Learns SOX Corporate requirements and maintains records to comply with said requirements
  3. Other duties and projects as assigned to meet department/facility goals.

  • Ability to analyze financial data identify and explain variances to forecast use the analysis to forecast going forward
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and changing priorities using strong organization and prioritization skills.
  • High degree of integrity while working with confidential information discreetly and appropriately.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with an emphasis on attention to detail balanced with a big picture focus.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of GAAP.
  • Ability to read understand and interpret financial data with an understanding of GAAPand regulatory requirements as well as company policies procedures and internal controls.
  • Ability to identify and research accounting issues independently and communicate conclusions effectively both verbally and in written form.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelors degree in Accounting Finance or a related field.
  • 25 years of experience in cost accounting financial analysis or related role.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles (GAAP/IFRS).
  • Experience with ERP systems (e.g. SAP Oracle NetSuite) preferred.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables VLOOKUP data analysis).
  • Strong analytical problem-solving and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • CPA CMA or progress toward certification.
  • Experience in manufacturing or product-based environments.
  • Familiarity with cost accounting systems and inventory management.
