Job Duties:

Under the direction of the Building Grounds Superintendent the incumbent will supervise and train students and temporary staff maintain the campus lawn athletic fields trees and shrubs. Apply pesticides and fertilizers. Involved in snow removal and landscape projects such as brick pavers retaining walls rain gardens etc. Assist in the recycling operation and vehicle maintenance.

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Assists with organizing the layout of planting sites plant and material selection research and evaluate new materials and equipment
  • Identifies and acts to remedy plant diseases and insect damage
  • Maintains clean and clear lawns walkways roadways and parking lots to ensure they are free of debris litter snow and ice
  • Plans and directs the day-to-day operational activities of various lawn and landscape projects and staff
  • Installs propagates and maintains the health of new and existing plants and landscape using a variety of vehicles and equipment
  • Schedules and monitors staff and assists with basic training

Department:

The department interacts extensively with customers campus community service providers and outside contractors to support a wide range of facility related operations maintenance and repairs. The skill ability and knowledge of the team have direct and profound impact on the success and satisfaction of the services delivered to the campus.

Compensation:

$18/hour depending on qualifications and experience

Required Qualifications:

  • Ability to have or obtain certification to spray chemicals within 6 months of employment.

  • Knowledge of tools associated with grounds.

  • Knowledge and experience managing coordinating troubleshooting and responding to customer service requests as they relate to recycling and resource recovery operations.

  • Basic understanding or knowledge of buildings and recycling industry terminology.

  • The ability to communicate clearly in person by telephone radio etc. (bi-lingual a plus).

  • The detail orientation initiative and ability to organize people methods and records.

  • Must be able to produce simple data records organize and communicate information clearly and effectively.

  • Customer service skills

  • Good communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Basic understanding or knowledge of the University environment its mission and operational needs.

  • Knowledge of PC based computer hardware and software reports and tracking processes (preferred).
