Senior Manager, OnCorr Rail Operations

Metrolinxis connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Metrolinx operates GO Transit and UP Express as well as the PRESTO fare payment system. We are also building new and improved rapid transit including GO Expansion Light Rail Transit routes and major expansions to Torontos subway system to get people where they need to go better faster and easier. Senior Manager GO Expansion Operations provides management and oversight to corridor capital infrastructure projects across the network from concept to completion.

What will I be doing

• Develops project strategies while providing overall administrative and technical leadership and oversight to multiple corridor project activities to ensure coordination of efforts and successful completion
• Plans sets objectives and controls activities during the development phase of the corridor project in conjunction with Managers and project teams
• Oversees project activities to proactively identify any areas of potential exposure or non-compliance; recommends appropriate actions to mitigate risk
• Delivers presentations attends meetings and provides acts as ambassador for the organization and its initiatives
• Partners and manages relationships with internal cross-functional departments (e.g. rail operations corridor delivery group procurement capital project delivery teams) to ensure progression of project and seamless commissioning/ deployment into operational service
• Leads the development of standards guidelines and management control systems that maximize safety environmental sensitivity and expense accountability
• Leads and/or oversees feasibility and environmental studies to meet business conditions relating to the development of corridor infrastructure projects
• Develops recommendations for management associated with capital project budgets for corridor infrastructure projects
• Provides senior leadership oversight and direction to staff and project teams (e.g. defines team member roles responsibilities and expectations); delivers timely feedback to ensure a cohesive operational unit and the optimum use of team skills; manages staff and monitors work assignments to ensure adherence to timelines; monitors the achievement of performance objectives; develops and implements action plans to address performance gaps
• Provides mentoring coaching and guidance to team members while maintaining effective leadership qualities

What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need

• Completion of a degree in Applied Science Engineering or a related discipline or a combination of education training and experience deemed equivalent

• Demonstrated years of progressive experience providing comprehensive engineering and project management services associated with the planning design and construction of transit facilities station infrastructure and related works. Previous experience includes leading a team of technical professionals.

  Certifications or Designations:

• Valid Professional Engineering (.) license recognized by the Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO) an asset

• Canadian Rail Operating Rules (CROR) certification an asset

  Technical Competencies:

• Theories principles and practices of civil and architectural design and construction; skill and proficiency in broad phases of engineering application
• Knowledge of railway corridor infrastructure and related construction projects
• Influencing skills to establish effective working relationships negotiate and deal with a variety of contacts both internal and external to the organization; along with the ability to gain cooperation from individuals not under direct authority
• Interpersonal and oral/written/presentation skills to present complex and/or new ideas with clarity and simplicity; to liaise with all levels within the organization and on construction sites; to work effectively with specialists across multiple sectors
• Occasionally required to work nights and weekends to visit construction sites and public meetings.
