About the role:
Boots is investing heavily in the transformation of its Retail and Supply Chain technology landscape. A significant portfolio of change initiatives is underway across the Retail Supply Chain and Commercial areas of the business and technology is central to their successful delivery.
We are seeking an experienced Senior Solution Architect to provide technical leadership across this portfolio shaping and assuring complex solutions from early concept through to delivery and live operation.
This role carries accountability for architectural delivery across multiple concurrent projects and programmes and includes the management coaching and capability development of a team of Solution Architects.

What youll be doing:
- Leadership & accountability
- Own the delivery of highquality endtoend solution architectures for technology projects ensuring designs directly enable successful project delivery and operational outcomes.
- Lead manage and mentor a team of Solution Architects developing capability ensuring consistent architectural quality and aligning architectural decisions with project priorities and timelines.
- Architecture & delivery
- Provide architectural leadership across store technology supply chain systems and associated business transformation initiatives.
- Oversee the production of Outline Designs HighLevel Designs and Detailed Designs ensuring architectural integrity throughout the delivery lifecycle and that designs are actionable and deliverable.
- Provide clear architectural direction on technology choices design decisions and the value-to-cost tradeoffs across complex solution spaces.
- Governance & stakeholder engagement
- Ensure adherence to architectural governance and provide oversight for designs delivered by internal teams and thirdparty partners.
- Chair or contribute to appropriate design authorities and peer reviews to support clear timely and high-quality decision-making.
- Maintain strong working relationships with delivery IT partners enterprise architecture and business stakeholders.
- Strategy & continuous improvement
- Develop and maintain a deep understanding of Boots technology strategy enterprise architecture and technology frameworks.
- Support the creation of roadmaps (including at hardware and software component level) and contribute to transitional and targetstate architectures.
- Support Lead Business Analysts with preproject estimating by outlining highlevel solution options identifying key components and assessing effort cost and complexity.
- Champion architectural standards patterns and reusable solution building blocks.
- Maintain an external perspective keeping close to technology developments industry trends best practice and partner capabilities to continually develop the teams knowledge and capabilities.
What youll need to have (our must-haves):
- Extensive experience in Solution Architecture (minimum 7 years preferred) across Retail Supply Chain or other large-scale enterprise environments.
- Proven experience leading managing and developing Solution Architects or similar technical architecture roles.
- Strong understanding of cloud and application technologies such as Microsoft Azure Java microservices and integration technologies (e.g. MuleSoft Talend Software AG Azure integration services).
- Strong working knowledge of TOGAFaligned methodologies.
- Familiarity with security and compliance design principles including PCI GDPR and secure-by-design patterns.
- Ability to collaborate with Product Owners Business Analysts Test Security Infrastructure Data and Service Introduction teams.
- Ability to communicate with senior stakeholders across the business articulating technical concepts and designs in a clear and meaningful way.
- Ability to allocate and prioritise work appropriately according to business need and team capacity delivering the required combination of pace and quality.
