Job Summary:

Strategic Communication the news and information hub for UW-Madison is searching for an enterprising and detail-oriented internal communications editor to create and deliver timely and engaging information. The role will also help manage and edit content related to institutional news for a variety of audiences including employees.
The role will primarily write and edit three weekly email newsletters including the flagship Inside UW publication as well as editing breaking news for
. The individual will have the opportunity to play a key role in reshaping and refining employee communication for the campus community as well as helping share institutional news.

Duties include:

  • Collaborating with colleagues in Strategic Communication and units across campus to find and develop news and feature content that engages employees and supports the universitys strategic messages.

  • Managing Inside UW and The Weekly newsletters editing and post other content as needed and serve as a backup editor to the Working at UW newsletter.

  • Editing content for accuracy AP Style readability and impact across multiple platforms.

  • Using analytics to measure refine and improve communications efforts.

  • Building and maintaining effective relationships with a large network of campus communicators.

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Manages the day-to-day operational unit plans to align with strategic initiatives and to meet established objectives (10%)

  • Creates and refines employee-focused internal communications strategies (5%)

  • Maintains partnership with communicators at campus departments and schools meeting regularly with them to coordinate content (5%)

  • Develops implements and delivers communication materials through various mediums to designated audiences (30%)

  • Follows best practices in the creation and distribution of email newsletters including planning assembly distribution and assessment (10%)

  • Plans writes and edits content for various internal and external stakeholders (30%)

  • Plans and directs unit programs and/or projects to ensure adherence to deadlines and budgets (5%)

  • Identifies proposes and implements new or revised unit operational policies and procedures (5%)

Compensation:

The minimum annual salary for this position is $75000. Actual starting salary is negotiable based on experience and other qualifications.

Required Qualifications:

  • 3 years of experience working in the area of internal communications with an emphasis on editing university corporate media or organizational email newsletters and internal communications news products.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience operating digital platforms including WordPress Google Groups Google Analytics tools is also preferred.

  • The ability to coordinate and manage multiple initiatives in a fast-paced environment.

  • Independent decision-making and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent written communication skills including the ability to create bright and engaging copy for various mediums and uses.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills including flexibility and a sense of humor

Education:

Bachelors degree or equivalent with an emphasis or major in communications or related field preferred.
