Introduction

Established under the auspices of the American Embassy in 2001 the Jerusalem American International school is a branch of The Walworth Barbour American International School in Israel (WBAIS). It is an MSA and locally accredited fully independent co-educational Pre-K - 9 international school offering an American program in an International setting.

JAIS is situated in a residential area of Jerusalem in the Goldstein youth village. We have renovated classrooms and a new yard as well as having access to communal facilities such as the swimming pool and gym.

JAIS is a small warm school where every student is included valued and set up to thrive.

JAIS teachers are dedicated to student success attentive to the physical and emotional well-being of their students passionate about student learning and excited by the prospect of working within a dynamic diverse community. Classroom practices emphasize active collaborative learning; team-building activities; the application of technology to authentic learning experiences; differentiated instruction and student achievement.


General Expectations

Guide practice according to the JAIS Mission Vision & Profile of a Learner.

  • Build meaningful relationships and dialogue with children in a warm and respectful manner that instills joy in learning and nurtures critical thinking independence and a positive self-concept.
  • Participate in team meetings and in ongoing professional development. Take initiative to seek out opportunities to build on knowledge.
  • Work alongside other early years staff in the implementation of a child-centered program including preparation organization and supervision of stimulating learning experiences and environments.
  • Plan and facilitate learning experiences and investigations for groups of children in studio(s) and in other group settings.
  • Work collaboratively to collect display and disseminate documentation of childrens learning (careful observational notes and intentional photos videos and recordings).
  • Work collaboratively with Teacher(s) to reflect on documentation develop curriculum support student learning needs following learning experiences and writing Learning Journey reports for each trimester.
  • As part of the team supervise children during outdoor play meal times rest times and assist with personal hygiene needs.
  • Share in communicating with parents regarding individual student progress and/or specific behaviors.

Essential Responsibilities


In addition the suited candidate should demonstrate the following:

  • Classroom facilitation effectively orchestrate a class with high learning impact by incorporating best practices into the classroom.
  • Curriculum development contribute to the development and documenting of curricular documents (unit plans assessments standards documentation etc.).
  • Communication skills proactively communicate to integrate all community stakeholders into the learning process.
  • Classroom technology be comfortable with educational technology such as See Saw and Google Workspace for Education and online learning management systems for communicating with parents and faculty and also with students in times of virtual school.


The Successful Candidate Will Have


  • College/University diploma in Education or equivalent.
  • Experience with differentiating to meet individual needs
  • Experience working with students with varying levels of English language fluency
  • Ability to collaborate in a co-teaching model
  • Teaching in an international school setting
  • Contributing to student experiences beyond the classroom.
  • Prior experience in an early childhood setting and knowledge of developmentally appropriate practice.
  • Fluency in English language as the language of instruction.
  • Warm joyful friendly and flexible attitude.
  • Forward-thinking creative reflective innovative.
  • A collaborative approach to teaching and working with others.
  • Holds a view of children as capable competent and independent.
  • Desire and commitment to work in a multicultural community that builds bridges across the diverse populations in Jerusalem and around the world.
