Job Summary
Drive sustainability and decarbonisation strategy across major energy and infrastructure projects in ANZ. Executive-facing role with national impact strong visibility and career progression within a Tier 1 ASX-listed organisation.
The Opportunity
Downer is seeking a strategic and influential Director to lead environmental governance sustainability performance and decarbonisation strategy across our Energy & Utilities business.
Reporting to the Executive General Manager Finance with a functional line to the Group General Manager Environment & Sustainability this role is pivotal in setting the strategic direction for sustainability across a complex geographically dispersed portfolio spanning Power Projects Utilities Water Telecommunications and Industrial services.
As the senior authority on sustainability and environment you will partner closely with Executive General and Operational leaders to embed sustainability into business decision-making strengthen governance frameworks and deliver measurable environmental outcomes across Australia and New Zealand. This is a critical leadership role shaping long-term decarbonisation and risk management strategies across the business.
What Youll Do
- Lead sustainability and environmental governance across the E&U business (ANZ)
- Set and drive decarbonisation and sustainability strategy aligned to corporate and client expectations
- Influence executive-level decisions to embed sustainability into operations and long-term planning
- Build and lead a high-performing geographically dispersed sustainability team
- Strengthen governance frameworks to manage environmental risk compliance and performance

What Were Looking For
We are looking for a strategic commercially astute leader who can influence at the highest levels and drive meaningful sustainability outcomes in a complex operational environment:
- Significant senior leadership experience in sustainability/environment within infrastructure utilities or major projects
- Proven ability to influence Executive and General Manager-level stakeholders
- Strong understanding of environmental legislation governance frameworks and risk management across ANZ
- Demonstrated experience leading decarbonisation or enterprise sustainability initiatives
- Ability to lead high-performing geographically dispersed teams and embed sustainability into business strategy
