Job Summary

The City of Dawson is seeking applications for Apprentice Lifeguards and Junior Lifeguards.

Apprentice and Junior Lifeguard positions offer new and aspiring Lifeguards to gain experience to help them progress to Lifeguards or Lifeguard-Instructor levels. These roles complement the existing pool crew team to help ensure public safety during public swim lane swims pool rentals and other daily scheduled programs. Junior Lifeguards work on deck alongside Lifeguards and Instructors to gain lifeguarding work experience and skills.

Positions are available from mid-May to late August with some roles starting earlier and all ending with the pools closure. Both full-time and part-time opportunities are available.

Apprentice Lifeguard: does not yet have the NLS certification to be a lifeguard but is attempting to obtain an NLS during the pool season. Once obtained will be moved to Junior Lifeguard or Lifeguard depending on age.
Hourly Rate: $19.94

Junior Lifeguard: holds an NLS but is between the age of 15 to 18.
Hourly Rate: $22.93

Junior Lifeguard-Instructor: holds an NLS and WSI but is between the age of 15 to 18.
Hourly Rate: $24.42

Skills required:

Certifications: Those needing re-certification may be considered

National Lifeguard Service (NLS) certification
Standard First Aid and CPR Level C

Knowledge & Skills:

Excellent communication skills both oral and written
Ability to deal tactfully and respectfully with staff and the public

Conditions of employment:

Clear RCMP Criminal Reference and Vulnerable Sector Check some exclusions may apply.
