Essential Functions and Responsibilities

The following duties are primarily performed and are essential for this position. Employees are expected to be able to perform each of these job duties satisfactorily and successfully to be qualified for the position. Other duties may be required and assigned.

Program Development & Coordination

• Collaborate with the Study Abroad Office in program development including working with third-party providers to shape itineraries that balance cultural educational professional and social activities.
• Maintain ongoing communication with third-party providers international contacts and the Study Abroad Office throughout program planning and implementation.
• Assist in recruiting student participants; leverage departmental and professional networks to promote programs.
• Participate in program lead training including AFS Global Competence Certificate cultural training and other required sessions.
• Support and participate in pre-departure orientations in partnership with the Study Abroad Office.

Instruction

• Learning Facilitation Foster student learning by developing appropriate instructional strategies to meet diverse student needs and support student engagement. Employ learning experiences that integrate multiple delivery methodologies and instructional technologies to maximize student success such as hybrid in-person virtual and on-line course delivery.
• Assessment Assess student learning and provide regular feedback to help students be successful. Use data to measure quality outcomes related to course success and learning and implement improvement strategies based on the evidence.
• Classroom Management Fulfill assigned schedule maintain accurate student attendance and grade records maintain instructional environment with emphasis on safety housekeeping and equipment security and ensure opportunities for student/engagement evaluation.
• Team Participation Support the college by engaging with the department as well as staying current with internal and external changes and initiatives.
• Business & Community Engagement - Build and maintain ongoing relationships with community industry and clinical partners. Proactively promote the College and our programs.
• Student Success & Support Serve as an advocate for students and collaborate with Student Services staff to retain students close achievement gaps and help all students be successful.
• Professional Development Continually improve knowledge and skills in emerging trends current occupational practices and teaching through professional development activities and current employment in the field. Maintain Faculty Quality Assurance System requirements and licensure required to maintain individual and program accreditation.

Leadership Abroad

• Travel with the student group to and from international destinations and remain accessible to participants throughout the program.
• Accompany students on all scheduled group weekend and itinerary-based activities. Ensure that a co-lead or approved representative is present if unforeseen circumstances prevent participation.
• Carry and maintain a cell phone with international capabilities to ensure continuous accessibility.
• Serve as a visible and professional representative of FVTC modeling respectful responsible and culturally sensitive behavior.
• Maintain appropriate professional boundaries and support student well-being during the program.

Health Safety & Risk Management

• Ensure students are aware of emergency procedures and have access to 24-hour emergency contacts.
• Act as the primary FVTC liaison in emergency situations promptly notifying the Study Abroad Office of incidents and following the established communication chain.
• Document and report any incidents involving student injury illness or serious conduct issues.
• Understand and comply with FVTCs Foreign Travel Insurance safety protocols and health procedures.

Program Administration & Follow-Up

• Submit arrival reports to the Study Abroad Office at the start of the program abroad.
• Notify the Study Abroad Office immediately if unable to fulfill program lead responsibilities due to illness family emergency or other circumstances.
• Participate in a post-program debrief with the Study Abroad Office within 30 days of return.
• Support completion of institutional program evaluations and provide feedback on program operations.
• Comply with all FVTC policies and uphold expectations for professionalism and ethical conduct.

Travel & Expenses

• International airfare accommodations (lodging) and program-related expenses are covered as part of program costs; incidental and meal expenses are reimbursed through pre-approved spend authorization.
• Standard accommodation includes single-room lodging with a private bathroom unless otherwise arranged.
• FVTC provides emergency medical and evacuation insurance while abroad.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and/or Experience Requirements:

• Bachelors Degree required.
• Hold at least one active certification or registration within the subject matter of the program if applicable.
• Minimum of two (2) years of occupational experience in the field of the program or programs being taught (Neurodiagnostic Technology) of which at least one year shall be within the last five years; Four years of occupational experience preferred.
• One (1) year of related occupational experience may be waived with at least two years of postsecondary teaching experience in the appropriate occupational field within the last five years.)
• Completion of FVTC Study Abroad Program Lead Training upon hire.
• Faculty staff or administrators with relevant experience in student support international education or leadership preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to recruit guide and support students in experiential or cross-cultural settings.
• Strong organizational interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
• Commitment to cultural sensitivity equity and student safety.
• Qualified per FVTC requirements at the time of and throughout employment as an instructor.
• Must also meet and maintain Higher Learning Commission (HLC) requirements Faculty Quality Assurance Standards (FQAS) and/or other job-specific licensing standards.

Licenses Certifications and Other Requirements:

• Current certification in the subject matter area of the program EEG EP IONM or CPSGT.
• Proficiency utilizing learning management system.
• Strong verbal communication skills.
• Adapt quickly to changing demands assignments and circumstances to meet student needs.
• Engage in continuous improvement in the quality of instruction by embracing innovative methodologies techniques and delivery methods.
• A background check including criminal record history will be conducted. Information from the background check will not necessarily preclude employment but will be considered in determining the applicants suitability and competence to perform in the position.
• Requires a valid drivers license and acceptable Motor Vehicle Record check preferred.

In evaluating candidates for this position Fox Valley Technical College may consider a combination of education training and experience which provides the necessary knowledge skills and abilities to perform the duties of this position.

Physical Requirements

Note: These are meant to be general travel physical environments for Study Abroad programs. However for specific physical requirements consult the detailed destination itinerary.

• Daily schedules are full and the program leads of the group are expected to stay with the group (nothing that students/participants can opt out of activities and rejoin but leaders cannot)
• Crowded heavily touristed areas are common
• Days may be long (1214 hours of activity occasionally longer on travel days)
• Navigate locations extensively each day often for prolonged periods
  • Participants can expect approximately steps per day (or the distance equivalent) comparable to a full day of sightseeing in a city like New York
  • Navigate uneven and historic environments which routes may include hills stairs cobblestone streets and paths and other uneven terrain
• Chaperone/attend tours (23 hours each) multiple may occur per day and may/may not be walking.
• Carry and manage personal luggage
• Chaperone students utilizing public transportation which includes air travel buses trams subways etc. Leads should have comfort with navigating public transportation.
• Tolerate variable weather and environmental conditions conditions outside of the US may involve warm temperatures and limited access to air conditioning
• Demonstrate physical stamina and resilience
• The experience can be physically mentally and emotionally demanding

Program leads should carefully consider whether they could independently manage travel between cities in the event of illness or injury that prevents them from continuing with the group as planned.

Work Environment

• Work must be completed in person for the travel portion and in person online and hybrid environments for the non-travel portions.
• Work is typically performed in both indoor and outdoor environments that can include airports city centers buses trains and museums.
• Work is typically performed outdoors during both daytime and nighttime hours and in all weather conditions in and around traffic.

Work environment may change based upon college needs.

Additional Information

Hourly pay rate: $45.00

Pay is based on a multitude of factors including experience qualifications education relevant certifications internal equity and market data.

Adjunct instructors are hired on a per course basis. The total hours for an adjunct instructor range from approximately 3 hours per week to no more than 8 hours per week. Hours vary and can include both day evening and weekend classes. Courses are taught in traditional classroom and alternative delivery formats.
