JOBOPENING- Title: Optometry Technician
- Location: Landstuhl Germany
- Start Date: Immediate
- Job-Type: Part-Time On-Call (PTOC)
Job Overview
Healthcare Professionals are needed to provide medical services to supplement the medical staff in support of the Military Treatment Facilities and Health Clinics within the US Army Medical Command Regional Health Command Europe and for other Department of Defense (DoD) agencies including the US Navy and US Air Forces in Europe.
Qualifications
- Degree: Must have a High School Diploma or GED
- Education: Formal training or on-the-job training accepted
- Certification: Not required but certification as a Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) or Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) or Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technologist (COMT) preferred.
- Experience: At least two years of experience as an Ophthalmic Technician/Technologist.
- Currently Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certified before commencing services under this contract
- Shall be able to read write and speak English well enough to effectively communicate with patients and other staff.
- U.S. Citizen must be able to obtain a proper background and child background investigation in a favorable status to meet security requirements.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Provide a wide variety of duties to assist the optometrist/ophthalmologist as appropriate to the level of certification (i.e. COA COT or COMT).
- Possess knowledge of specialized medical terminology associated with Optometry and Ophthalmology
- Maintains effective communication with patients and staff and performs ocular triage for patients who call or walk into the clinic
- Perform vision screenings obtain patient histories prescription verification of eyeglasses and contact lenses troubleshooting optical problems and maintain patient records.
- Test far and near visual acuity perform gross peripheral vision testing evaluate depth perception check pupils perform color perception tests and perform a gross external eye examination.
- Utilize an autorefractor non-contact tonometer and lensometer. During vision screening
- Test field of vision including central and peripheral vision for defects and chart test results on graph paper.
- Apply drops to anesthetize dilate or medicate eyes.
- Operate specialized ophthalmic equipment: Pentacam OCT visual field and anterior/posterior segment camera.
- Conducts basic maintenance on office equipment.
- Provides rigid and soft contact lens insertion/removal classes and understands contact lens cleaning and storing procedures.
- Vision therapy experience preferred but not required.
DOCPER/SOFA/Logistical Support Status
This position is eligible for support under the NATO Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA) supplemental agreement articles 72 or 73.
