Position Summary
The Logistics Coordinator is responsible for the end-to-end coordination and execution of transportation activities across North America supporting shipments via truck (bulk hoppers end dumps bulk tankers) rail hoppers rail tankers and international shipments.
This role ensures on-time pickup and delivery performance cost-effective transportation execution and financial accuracy of freight spend through close collaboration with carriers internal stakeholders and Accounts Payable.

Key Responsibilities
1. Transportation Planning & Execution
- Plan coordinate and execute daily transportation activities across multiple modes including:
- Truckload (bulk hoppers end dumps)
- Bulk tankers
- Rail hoppers and rail tank cars
- International shipments FCL/LCL (imports and exports)
- Customs and Regulatory (CBSA CBP CFIA APHIS USDA)
- Schedule and dispatch shipments using approved carriers ensuring alignment with sales production inventory availability plants and customer requirements.
- Track and proactively manage shipments from pickup through final delivery resolving delays or service issues in real time.
- Ensure all shipments comply with regulatory safety and customer-specific requirements.
2. Carrier Management & Service Performance
- Manage relationships with approved transportation providers across truck rail and intermodal modes.
- Monitor carrier performance against defined service-level expectations including on-time pickup and delivery.
- Communicate service issues to carriers and work collaboratively to implement corrective actions.
- Maintain accurate carrier records including rates equipment types lane coverage insurance and contact details.
3. Rate Management & Cost Control
- Support and participate in rate negotiations with carriers to ensure competitive pricing while maintaining service reliability.
- Understand transportation cost drivers across modes and lanes including fuel surcharges accessorial and equipment constraints.
- Evaluate transportation options and make cost-conscious decisions while balancing service requirements.
4. Financial Accuracy & Freight Audit
- Ensure financial accuracy of all transportation costs by validating freight rates accessorial charges and fuel surcharges prior to payment.
- Review audit and approve carrier invoices in coordination with Accounts Payable resolving discrepancies in a timely manner.
- Maintain accurate freight accruals and shipment cost data within transportation and ERP systems.
5. Systems Data & Reporting
- Accurately maintain shipment rate and carrier data within Transportation Management Systems (TMS) and ERP platforms.
- Generate and analyze transportation metrics related to cost service performance and carrier compliance.
- Support month-end close activities related to freight accruals and spend reporting.
7. Administrative & Operational Support
- Maintain accurate documentation related to shipments contracts and carrier communications.
- Provide back-up support to other logistics team members as required.
- Be available after hours on a rotational or as-needed basis to manage urgent transportation issues.
Required Skills & Competencies
- Working knowledge of multi-modal transportation (truck rail intermodal/customs).
- Strong understanding of freight pricing accessorial and transportation cost structures.
- Experience working with TMS and ERP systems; strong proficiency in Microsoft 365.
- Ability to analyze transportation data and financial impacts.
Education & Experience
- Post-secondary education in Supply Chain Logistics Business or related field preferred.
- 25 years of experience in transportation logistics coordination or supply chain operations preferred.
- Experience with bulk rail international logistics or customs is a strong asset.
Working Conditions
- Office-based role with extended periods of computer use.
- Less than 5% travel primarily for carrier meetings or training as required.
- Periodic after-hours availability to support transportation execution.
