Mō te tūranga About the role
We are seeking an experienced Ranger Project Lead Biodiversity to lead the planning and delivery of the Kaimai Mamaku Goat Eradication Project within Kaimai Mamaku Conservation Park.
You will lead the development and implementation of the projects Operational Plan and be responsible for driving delivery. This includes overseeing contractors undertaking ground and aerial hunting operations leading a small project team of technical specialists and ensuring work is delivered safely effectively and on schedule.
The role requires a high level of collaboration working in partnership with regional stakeholders conservation organisations and community groups. Building and maintaining strong relationships with tangata whenua will be essential to success.
This is a fixed-term position through to June 2028 offered on a part-time basis (24 hours per week). The role requires a balance of strategic planning and project management operational delivery and stakeholder engagement.
The position will be focussed on:
Leading delivery of the Operational Plan to achieve eradication outcomes
Coordinating field operations and contractors
Building strong relationships with tangata whenua including leading a capability building programme with relevant hapū to help 2-3 kaimahi gain skills and experience in this type of work
Monitoring progress and adapting delivery as needed
Providing clear reporting and communication
Maintaining a strong focus on health and safety

If you are someone with strong practical conservation experience with a passion for biodiversity outcomes strong leadership skills and the ability to deliver complex projects in a collaborative environment we want to hear from you.
If you have some of following we are keen to hear from you:
Significant practical experience in biodiversity conservation including eradication or large-scale pest control projects
A relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent experience
Proven experience in contract management operational planning delivery and reporting
Demonstrated ability to lead projects end-to-end including setting direction prioritising work and delivering outcomes in complex environments
Leadership experience coaching influencing and coordinating multidisciplinary teams
Excellent relationship management and interpersonal skills including working in partnership with iwi/hapū and a range of external stakeholders
Strong risk management and problem-solving skills including the ability to adapt plans in dynamic operational environments
Ability to interpret technical advice apply it in an operational context and communicate it clearly to a range of audiences
Strong planning and organisational skills with attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities
A focus on health safety and wellbeing in field-based operations
Full current driver licence
Desirable:
Knowledge of ground aerial hunting and operational planning
Familiarity with GIS mapping or data management tools for biodiversity projects
Previous experience working in multi-agency or cross-partner conservation projects
Understanding of cultural practices and partnerships with Māori/Iwi/hapū
First aid or field safety qualifications
