Job Summary


Based on-site at Myers Emergency & Power Systems Bethlehem PA facility the Electrical Engineer will contribute to the architecture design integration and validation of power electronics hardware analog hardware and communication systems for our Emergency Lighting Inverter products. This role will report to the Director of Engineering and will be a critical member of our growing engineering team in the Emergency Lighting Inverter business unit.

This role will support the full development lifecycle from engineering requirements generation through design implementation verification and product launch for new products as well as sustaining engineering. The Electrical Engineer will work cross functionally with engineering leadership product management sales field service and production to provide solutions that emphasize reliability safety and performance in our growing industry.

Bethlehem PA is a historic city located in the Lehigh Valley Pennsylvanias third largest urban area. Located 50 miles north of Philadelphia 75 miles west of New York City and 25 miles south of the Pocono Mountains the Lehigh Valley offers bustling downtowns and an affordable cost of living in a family friendly place all within a short drive of two of Americas largest urban areas and one of Americas scenic areas known for its outdoor recreation.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned as required by departmental needs;

Power Electronics Hardware

  • Work collaboratively with the engineering team to design and troubleshoot DC/DC and AC/DC Conversion in the Multi-kW Range
  • Actively participate in the definition of future Inverter and DC/DC Conversion Architectures
  • Drive analysis design and verification of Analog and Digital Circuits
  • Generate and review schematics and PCB layouts including new component selection
  • Work hands-on with laboratory test equipment including oscilloscopes & power meters
  • Provide guidance on alternate component selection for cost reduction and obsolescence mitigation

Embedded System Integration

  • Integrate analog and digital circuits into embedded systems based on DSPs and Microcontrollers
  • Collaborate with embedded engineers to define and test physical layer interfaces
  • Design and troubleshoot low-speed and high-speed communication interfaces such as CAN RS-485 RS-232 SPI I2C USB and Ethernet

Testing Validation & Quality

  • Contribute to Worst Case Circuit Analysis
  • Develop and execute both board level and system level test plans
  • Actively contribute in design reviews for hardware and software architectures
  • Assist Project Management to develop high quality DFMEAs and Risk Analyses
  • Participate in securing regulatory approvals from UL IEC and applicable regulatory agencies

Tools & Process

  • Participate in Agile Development using tools such as Jira and Confluence
  • Support structured design documentation and change management
  • Use Altium to develop and maintain schematics PCBs and Component Libraries
  • Collaborate cross functionally with teams throughout product development
  • Develop circuit and system models in LTspice or similar modeling software

Requirements

  • BS in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
  • 3-6 years of new product development of Power Electronics
  • Working understanding of design and validation of DC/DC and AC/DC converters
  • Excellent hands-on lab skills for analyzing troubleshooting and debugging
  • Expertise in working with power supplies oscilloscopes power analyzers etc.
  • Familiarity with embedded control of Power Electronics using DSPs and microcontrollers
  • Familiarity with battery storage systems (VRLA Lithium iron phosphate etc.)
  • Experience with DFM Continuous Improvement and collaboration with manufacturing
  • Experience troubleshooting conducted and radiated EMI as well as design for immunity
  • Exposure to design trade-offs of IGBTs MOSFETs and Wide-Bandgap Semiconductors
  • Strong Written and Verbal Communication Skills
