Job Description:
The Piping Checkers day-to-day involves a deep dive into 2D drawings and 3D models to verify every detail against project standards.
1. Technical Verification
- Isometric Checking: Reviewing Isos for dimensional accuracy correct line numbering and proper material call-outs (BOM).
- P&ID Consistency: Ensuring the physical layout matches the Process & Instrumentation Diagrams (checking for valves instruments and flow direction).
- Clash Detection: Using 3D software to ensure pipes dont run through structural beams cable trays or other equipment.
- Support Design: Verifying that pipe supports are placed at the correct spans and can handle the weight and thermal expansion of the system.
2. Quality & Compliance
- Code Adherence: Ensuring designs follow international codes like ASME B31.3 (Process Piping) or B31.1 (Power Piping).
- Project Specifications: Verifying that the specific Pipe Class (material thickness rating) assigned by the client is being used correctly.
- Redlining: Marking up errors in red and providing clear feedback to designers for correction.
3. Constructability & Maintenance
- Accessibility: Checking that valves are reachable instruments are readable and there is enough pull space to remove heat exchanger bundles or pump motors.
- Safety: Ensuring there are no head-knockers (pipes too low) or trip hazards in walking areas.
