Job Summary

About the Unit

The lead medical physicist works within the Department of Radiation Oncology. The incumbent reports to the Chief of Physics and works under the guidance of the Director of Clinical Physics. The role serves as a local administrator for a given site/area within the broader department. Performs and reviews all aspects of radiotherapy patient and equipment related planning and quality assurance.

Scope of Work

  • Supports Director of Clinical Physics by handling day to day clinical issues for given area.
  • Works closely with the Director of Clinical Physics Chief Dosimetrist and Chief Therapist to develop new policies/procedures for broader department as well as on a local level.
  • Responsible for implementing new physics policies/procedures on a local level.
  • Focused on leading physics projects which will promote growth at that clinical site.
  • Works with new hires for onboarding and training processes.
  • Collaborates with physicists at other sites to promote overall standardization of physics procedures within the broader department.
  • Coordinates with Physician Clinical Director and other local leadership to ensure the safe and accurate administration of radiation therapy.
  • Interfaces with other hospital departments to maintain proper integration of Radiation Oncology within the broader hospital workflow.
  • Responsible for the radiation safety of patients staff and visitors within the local department.
  • Responsibilities may include assignments of clinical service research/development and education/training as per Staff Physicist job description.

Qualifications

  • Required Masters Degree or PhD degree in physics medical physics or related field or Doctorate of Medical Physics.
  • 3 years of relevant experience 3-5 years of clinical experience as a Medical Physicist in a cancer treatment setting. Required
  • CRT-Medical Physics - ABR American Board of Radiology Upon Hire required Or
  • CRT-Medical Physics - ABMP Amercian Board of Medical Physics Upon Hire required
