Responsibilities
The Junior Underwriter role at Berkley Construction Solutions is an earlycareer underwriting position responsible for supporting the evaluation selection and pricing of excess casualty construction risks using BCSs advanced underwriting systems data platforms and AIenabled decision support tools. This role focuses on developing strong underwriting judgment while leveraging modern technology to accelerate submission intake improve data quality and support consistent guidelinedriven underwriting decisions. The Junior Underwriter works within defined authority levels and under the guidance of underwriting management while gaining handson experience with BCSs underwriting workflows analytics and automation capabilities.
Key functions include but are not limited to:
- Evaluate new and renewal excess casualty construction submissions using BCSs underwriting systems workflow tools and integrated data sources
- Leverage AIenabled submission intake data enrichment and risk scoring tools to support underwriting analysis and decisionmaking
- Review systemgenerated insights alerts and data outputs to validate risk information and identify items requiring underwriting judgment
- Prepare underwriting recommendations pricing inputs and coverage terms within established guidelines and authority
- Support efficient quotetobind execution by utilizing intuitive technologydriven underwriting workflows
- Maintain accurate underwriting files and documentation within core underwriting and analytics platforms
- Collaborate with Operations Technology Claims and Finance teams to ensure data accuracy and workflow adherence
- Adhere to underwriting governance authority structures and system controls designed to ensure consistency and compliance
- Support continuous improvement initiatives by providing feedback on underwriting tools and processes
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree required
- 03 years of related underwriting insurance or financial services experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
- Foundational understanding of commercial underwriting principles and risk evaluation
- Strong comfort working in technologyenabled underwriting environments
- Ability to interpret and apply systemgenerated data analytics and AIdriven insights
- Demonstrated aptitude for learning underwriting concepts systems workflows and automation tools
- Strong analytical organizational and timemanagement skills
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Interest in developing expertise in excess casualty and construction underwriting
- Progress toward insurance designations (AU CPCU) preferred but not required
- Ability to travel 20%
