Position Purpose
The Senior OH&S Specialist is a newly internalised role responsible for leading workplace health and safety compliance risk management and safety culture initiatives across all Amplifon AUS locations. Reporting to the Head of HRBPs AUS this role is a key partner to operations and store leadership translating WHS legislative requirements into practical site-level outcomes. The position works closely with our HRBP team and the external Injury Management provider to ensure a seamless experience for injured employees and effective early intervention
Key Responsibilities:
WHS Compliance & Regulatory Management
- Maintain and continuously improve the Amplifon Safety Management System (SMS) ensuring alignment with applicable state/territory legislation and regulations
- Act as the primary point of contact for regulatory bodies (SafeWork NSW WorkSafe VIC SafeWork SA etc.) and manage all notifiable incident obligations
- Monitor legislative changes across all states and territories and update internal policies and procedures accordingly
- Prepare and maintain all mandatory WHS documentation including registers policies and safe work method statements (SWMS)
Risk Management & Hazard Control
- Conduct facilitate and review workplace risk assessments and job safety analyses across store and support office environments
- Maintain the hazard and incident register and ensure timely corrective and preventive actions are completed and tracked
- Conduct regular safety audits and inspections across store locations prioritising high-risk sites and supporting area managers in implementing recommendations
- Identify systemic safety risks and develop mitigation strategies with operational leaders
- Own the business risk and continuity plan working with the Organisation Directors
Incident Management & Investigation
- Manage the internal incident reporting system ensuring all incidents and near-misses are reported investigated and closed out within required timeframes
- Conduct thorough root cause analyses for workplace incidents producing reports with clear corrective actions
- Prepare and lodge required notifications with SafeWork/WorkSafe for notifiable incidents
- Liaise with the external Injury Management provider upon incident occurrence to ensure timely claim lodgment and early intervention activation
Training Induction & Safety Culture
- Develop deliver and maintain WHS induction programs for all new starters across corporate and retail environments in collaboration with training teams
- Utilise our LMS to support with online delivery of training to our large network of 400 stores across Australia in collaboration with training teams
- Coordinate and deliver role-specific safety training including emergency procedures hazard identification and ergonomics. Ensure all employees are safe and complaint to Legislation.
- Drive a positive safety culture through toolbox talks safety communications team briefings and safety awareness campaigns
Experience & Qualifications WHS Governance & Reporting
- Facilitate and support Health & Safety Committees or Worker Representative structures in accordance with legislative requirements
- Provide weekly monthly and quarterly WHS reporting to the HR Director and executive leadership including KPIs on incident rates near-misses audit outcomes Injury case management and corrective action completion
- Support Executive level reporting on WHS matters as required
- Manage the WHS budget and external vendor relationships related to safety equipment testing and specialist services
- Ensure all policies and procedures are up to date and compliant to regulatory bodies
Injury Management Coordination (Liaison)
- Manage the external Injury Management provider providing direction and relaying important information to Amplifon leadership
- Support line managers in understanding their obligations regarding suitable duties and return to work plans
- Monitor return to work progress and escalate cases at risk of delayed recovery or non-compliance
- Use claims data and trends from the IM provider to inform OHS prevention strategies
- Support the Companys premium review Implementing strategies to positively impact our Workcover premiums
Qualifications & Experience:
Essentials
- Certificate IV or Diploma in Work Health and Safety (or equivalent qualification)
- Minimum 35 years experience in an OHS generalist or advisor role ideally in a multi-site retail services or healthcare environment
- Experience working autonomously with minimal oversight
- Demonstrated knowledge of the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 and relevant state-based legislation
- Experience conducting incident investigations risk assessments and safety audits
- Strong communication skills with the ability to influence and engage people at all levels including frontline staff and senior leaders
Desirables
- Bachelors degree in Health & Safety Science or a related discipline
- Membership with the Australian Institute of Health & Safety (AIHS)
- Experience in a retail hearing health or medical devices environment
- Familiarity with workers compensation systems and injury management interfaces
- Experience implementing or managing a digital safety management system
