POSITION SUMMARY

USA Lacrosse is looking for an unpaid/for credit summer Sport Science Intern to work with our High-Performance department. The Sport Science Intern will primarily work alongside the Manager Sport Science with engagement across the department to assist with the management and coordination of USA Lacrosses events. This will include completing a variety of administrative and sport science-related tasks and working on projects associated with our National Teams and National Team Development Program (NTDP) events.

We are looking for an energetic hands-on go-getter who will approach each day with enthusiasm and respect for the role they are playing to support the top athletes in lacrosse competing to represent the United States. If you are looking to gain applied experience in sport science performance testing and athlete support in a high-performance environment this is an excellent opportunity for you. You will play an integral role in supporting the High-Performance department in preparing for upcoming National Team events as well as the NTDP through assisting with logistics of the NTDP Combine data entry and execution of performance testing protocols. This position will start in June and end in mid-August 2025.

A Typical Day Looks Like

  • Assists the Manager Sport Science in all aspects of NTDP Combines related to performance testing sessions including but not limited to event preparation on-site logistics equipment setup and data collection entry cleaning and reporting.
  • Supports registration activities for NTDP events including collection and verification of athlete information necessary for participation in performance testing and event compliance.
  • Communicates with volunteers and event staff providing necessary information related to performance testing procedures during event operations.
  • Provides on-site assistance at NTDP Combine stages and National Team training camps supporting sport science initiatives and other operational tasks as needed.
  • Provides administrative and sport science support to National Teams and the NTDP including responsibilities such as data entry customer service event preparation and execution document processing and retention and support of performance testing initiatives.

  • You will report to work each day you are scheduled on time presenting yourself in a professional manner though your appearance and interactions with others.

  • You will be asked to complete a final report about your internship experience to Include:
  • What did you learn about USAL.
  • What did you learn about your field of study and the responsibilities of the department you worked in.
  • Explain your roles and responsibilities and talk about any project(s) you did.
  • Reflect on skills and work habits you learn that you will take with you as you start your career.

IsThis You

  • Current college student working toward a Bachelors degree (junior or senior) or Masters degree in Exercise Science Sport Science or related field.
  • Previous work internship or volunteer experience in an athletic sport performance or strength and conditioning setting preferred.
  • Experience using GPS monitoring hardware and software.
  • Experience using timing gates and conducting performance testing.
  • Intermediate computer skills with working knowledge of Microsoft 365 products including Word Excel Outlook Teams and PowerPoint.
  • Enthusiastic go-getter with a roll up your sleeves and get it done attitude.
  • Strong organizational skills attention to detail follow up/through skills and the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills including interpersonal verbal and written.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team in a fast-paced dynamic environment. Must possess a strong customer first attitude.
  • Ability to exercise the appropriate level of discretion and judgment with the capability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive and proprietary information and materials.
  • Ability to present a professional persona and presence to build relationships and establish credibility.
  • Ability to be flexible with your work schedule including the ability to work some nights and weekends based on event schedules.
  • Willingness to learn about the sport of lacrosse and appreciate the need to develop and fuel the growth of the sport with diversity inclusion and equity in mind.
  • Ability to align with USA Lacrosses Mission Vision and Values and Strategic Plan to support our initiatives and organizational goals.

Expected Hours of Work

This position is full-time working 30 to 40 hours per week during the work week (Monday through Friday) between the hours of 8:30am to 5:00pm with occasional work on nights and/or weekends based on event and business needs. This position will work from our headquarters office in Sparks MD.
