AECOMs San Diego Natural Resources group is actively seeking an ecological restoration field crew member for full-time employment. The ecological restoration field crew member will play a vital role in supporting habitat restoration projects across Southern California. Key duties include:
Habitat Restoration Tasks:
- Perform nonnative species control using manual mechanical and chemical methods.
- Conduct native seed application and install container plants.
- Maintain and construct temporary irrigation systems.
- Implement erosion control measures.
Project Collaboration:
- Work on complex ecological restoration projects under the guidance of the Field Director and Crew Leader.
- Provide field labor and support for all aspects of restoration efforts.
Facility Maintenance:
- Oversee the maintenance of the Annex (National City) and Clover Flat (Campo) facilities including irrigation climate control and security systems.
- Ensure seed cleaning equipment and other tools are in proper working condition.
Certification and Compliance:
- Maintain a Qualified Applicator Certificate (QAC) to handle and apply pesticides safely and legally.
- Adhere to and enforce OSHA and AECOM-specific safety policies.
Problem-Solving and Communication:
- Consult with supervisors regarding unusual challenges or developments encountered during fieldwork.
- Collaborate effectively with team members to address project needs.
Health and Safety:
- Actively participate in AECOMs health and safety culture.
- Promote compliance with safety standards and foster a safe working environment.
Qualifications :
Minimum Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent of 1 year of relevant habitat restoration work experience
- Must possess a valid drivers license and clean driving record to travel between field site locations.
- Willingness to perform herbicide application.
- Elementary GPS capabilities.
- Must pass a State and Federal criminal history/security background check; many projects/ clients are security sensitive.
- Must pass pre-employment drug screen.
- Physically able with or without an accommodation to work in outdoor environments with uneven terrain variable outdoor conditions including heat dusts chemicals moisture and dryness. The overall physical demands of this position are strenuous.
- Position requires frequent (more than 50% of workday) standing/walking and lifting of less than 25 pounds. Often (25-50% of workday) performing repetitive bending & stooping power gripping/squeezing (hand tools levers etc.) repetitive or fine hand movements and lifting 25-50 pounds. Rarely (less than 10% of workday) performing work with arms above shoulder level operation of vehicles climbing stairs using portable ladders wearing fall protection operation of heavy moving or dangerous equipment and lifting 50-75 pounds. Position will include wearing associated personal protective equipment including gloves safety glasses/goggles face shield and safety shoes/boots.
Preferred Skills/Experience:
- 1 years of experience in native habitat fieldwork.
- Native plant species knowledge and identification.
- Knowledge and understanding of equipment and techniques used to perform habitat restoration.
- Knowledge and familiarity with use and repair of small power equipment such as weed eaters chain saws and blowers.
- Experience with electronic data collection devices.
- CPR/First Aid certified.
- Excellent work ethic and team-player attitude.
- Strong attention to detail with proven ability to follow specific instructions.
- Ability to effectively communicate verbally with other project staff.
