Class Title: Equipment Mechanic Technician
Work Days: 260 days
Work hours: 8 hours per day
Work Schedule: Mon - Fri 7 :00 am - 3:30 pm
POSITION: Under general supervision performs skilled mechanical repair work on all types of equipment; and performs related work as required.
Example of Duties:
- Repairs and overhauls grounds gardening custodial and maintenance equipment
- Assists in the repair and maintenance of hydraulic systems
- Assists in the maintenance and mechanical adjustment of classroom machinery and office machinery including lamination machines
- Assists in the maintenance of gymnasium equipment including basketball back boards winches bleachers and curtains
- Rebuilds engines
- Maintains and repairs air compressors Hoya lifts wheelchair lifts and food wrapping machines
- Maintains the back-up generator of the TIS department
- May do electric and gas welding
- Assists in the design of new parts
- Performs lubrication on equipment
- Performs tire repair for grounds equipment
- May make service calls for emergency repairs
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
Training and Experience:
- A combination of training and experience equivalent to four years of increasingly responsible experience in general equipment repair work.
Knowledge of:
- The principles of internal combustion engines and of the methods tools equipment and materials used in the repairand maintenance of motorized equipment.
Skill in:
- Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with others.
Ability to:
- Use shop equipment and tools to make major and minor repairs
- Follow oral and written directions
- Keep records
- Learn and interpret rules regulations procedures and policies
Licenses and Certificates:
- A valid California drivers license
Certificates and Other Requirements:
- Meet requirements as set forth in applicable state and federal laws and District Annual Notices (i.e. Mandated Reporting Blood Borne Pathogen).
Environment:
School based settings and surrounding school environment or other District designated environment; subject to diverse weather conditions.
Physical Abilities:
Seeing to diagnose and repair equipment and read instructional manuals; hearing and speaking to exchange information and provide assistance to staff; walking reaching holding with arms bending at the waist crouching and squatting; dexterity of hands and fingers to operate specialized equipment or office equipment; lifting up to 50 pounds or equivalent.
Other Qualifications:
Must successfully pass the Districts pre-employment fingerprinting and TB testing.
SELECTION PROCEDURE: Candidates must pass each part of the selection process which consists of a review and evaluation of candidates application material.
