DescriptionIn accordance with the Vision Purpose and Values and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority patient safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone at VIHA; as such the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.
Reports to the Nurse Manager Department Head or designate. Render comprehensive care to patients and participates in related cardiac catheterization and radiology invasive procedures which can include scrubbing for procedures monitoring drug and contrast administration and completion of required nursing documentation. Will assist physicians in the performance of invasive procedures. Assessment and care of the patient is the primary function of the Heart Catheterization Lab/Electrophysiology Lab (HCL/EPL) registered nurse. Promotes a safe environment by using protective devices and radiation protection practices. Performs his/her designated duties in accordance with the unit/program philosophy competency guidelines policies and the BCCNM Standards for Nursing Practice in British Columbia.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education Training And Experience
Registration with BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing RN registrant. Minimum 2 years recent Cardiac Critical Care Nursing experience combined with the completion of an accredited Critical Care Program preferred. Minimum 6 months recent Cardiac Critical Care experience and the successful completion of an accredited Critical Care Program required. Demonstrated ability in arrhythmia interpretation as evidenced by a mark of 75% on the VIHA ECG Challenge exam. Advanced Cardiac Life Support an asset.
Skills And Abilities
- Knowledge in arrhythmia interpretation as evidenced by: a) successful completion of approved basic arrhythmia course within the past year; or b) a mark of 75% on the approved ECG Challenge Exam.
- Knowledge of cardiac and self-management related resources throughout the health authority.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing;
- Ability to work as a member of an interdisciplinary team;
- Ability to organize workload and set priorities;
- Ability to plan organize and evaluate patient care;
- Ability to access transportation to meet operational requirements.
- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position
- Ability to be on call.
