Job Title: Outpatient Medical Coder (Neurology / Neurosurgery)
Location: Houston TX 77024
Contract Duration: 12 Weeks
Shift: Day (8:00 AM 5:00 PM)
Pay Rate: $32/hour
Job Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Outpatient Medical Coder specializing in Neurology and Neurosurgery to support accurate coding billing and compliance processes. This role involves reviewing clinical documentation and assigning appropriate ICD-10-CM and CPT codes to ensure regulatory compliance and optimal reimbursement.
Key Responsibilities:
Review clinical documentation and diagnostic results to assign accurate ICD-10-CM CPT and modifier codes
Ensure compliance with official coding guidelines and regulatory requirements
Abstract and enter data accurately for billing and reporting purposes
Communicate with providers to clarify documentation and ensure coding accuracy
Adhere to ethical coding standards and organizational policies
Support quality improvement and coding accuracy initiatives
Mentor and assist less experienced coders when needed
Required Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED (required)
Minimum 2 years of outpatient E/M coding experience
Ability to code for Neurology providers
Strong knowledge of coding guidelines compliance and reimbursement methodologies
Effective written and verbal communication skills
Required Certifications (One of the Following):
Certified Coding Specialist (CCS)
Certified Professional Coder (CPC)
Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT)
Certified Medical Coder (CMC)
Certified Coding Associate (CCA)
Preferred Qualifications:
Associate Degree in a medical-related field
Experience in outpatient Neurosurgery coding
Experience with Hierarchical Condition Category (HCC) coding
Familiarity with EPIC electronic health record system
Key Skills:
Strong attention to detail and accuracy
Knowledge of APC reimbursement methodologies
Ability to interpret clinical documentation and apply coding standards
Strong organizational and time management skills
