Manufacturing Engineer Level 1

Location Profile:

Headquartered in Irvine CA Shur-Lok manufactures fastening systems with superior locking devices for critical requirements including engine module assembly structural assembly rotor blade attachment and aircraft engine shaft and spindle applications. Operations at the Irvine location include: CNC Machining CNC Waterjet Cutting Laser Marking Heat Treating NDT and EDM.

Position Summary:

The Manufacturing Engineer shall support the business in areas of product development; process improvement; daily production support; project manage key programs; analyze and interpret technical data (engineering drawings specifications purchase orders etc.) and create shop routings operations sheets tools and other necessary processes and equipment to produce a high quality product.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

• Develop and write detailed instructions for the manufacture of products.
• Analyze production data and look for trends indicating potential problems and develop solutions for potential problems.
• Provide process control systems in the form of instructions standards data collection and feedback loops.
• Utilize PCC toolbox such as Lean Six Sigma in order to improve factory performance.
• Create tooling and fixtures to support production needs.

Required Skills:

• Ability to read documents such as safety rules operating and manufacturing instructions blueprints and procedure manuals in English.
• Excellent computer skills with expertise in Microsoft Excel Word and PowerPoint.
• ERP system knowledge.
• CAD or 3D modeling system operation knowledge a plus.
• Ability to think spatially and creatively at an advanced level.
• Strong understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T)
• Must have proven experience in performing time studies and setting routing standards.
• Ability to analyze and plan work force utilization space requirements workflow and designs layout of equipment and workspace for maximum efficiency and safety.
• Proven high level of creative problem solving ability.
• Uses Inspection equipment: Calipers Micrometers.

• Strong oral and written communication skills must be able to write detailed reports correspondence and procedures
• Strong interpersonal and leadership skills

Experience & Education

• Bachelor of Science in Manufacturing or Industrial Engineering or related engineering degree.
• 3 years of manufacturing engineering experience.
• Must have the ability to reason and arrive at conclusions with minimum help and have a basic understanding of statistics.
• Advanced math skills including statistical analysis and trigonometry required.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and CAD software (SolidWorks) required.
• Must be able to demonstrate teamwork collaboration creativity and innovation.
• Self-motivated with strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to effectively prepare and deliver technical reports and presentations.
• Working knowledge and application of Lean Six Sigma.
• Ability to lead and function in a team environment while effectively communicating across various levels of the organization.
• Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma Certification is a plus.
• CNC programming is a plus
• Understanding of standard machining tooling is a plus (drills taps inserts reamers etc.)
