Position Summary
The Technologist Imaging Service is responsible for the safe repair performance assurance preventive maintenance and incoming inspection of imaging systems. The position works directly with a wide variety of health care professionals (e.g. physicians nurses medical radiation technologists and support staff) and medical equipment vendors.
The Imaging Service team supports Molecular Imaging Digital Radiography Ultrasound Breast Imaging Computed Tomography Fluoroscopy and Angiography systems. These positions will work with our Computed Tomography team. One or both positions are planned to be crossed-trained to the Digital Radiography/Ultrasound/Breast Imaging team.
This position is located in the downtown core and it is preferred that candidates have reliable transportation for coming into the office on a timely manner.
Duties
- Maintains responsibility for the technical support of imaging equipment within area of responsibility (i.e. particular modality model of equipment site etc.).
- Ensures the safe maintenance and repair of medical equipment.
- Schedules and performs regularly scheduled maintenance (e.g. preventive maintenance dosimetry testing) and ensures these are completed on schedule.
- Performs incoming inspection of new equipment such as receiving documenting assembling installing conducting performance and safety testing obtaining necessary legal approvals coordinating the connection of the systems to the hospital network and other specific activities dictated by the equipment or system(s) to prepare it for clinical use.
- Maintains work documentation and equipment inventory information.
- Participates in the selection and evaluation of medical equipment.
- Provides in-service training and consultation to promote the proper use and care of equipment.
- Performs risk management activities (e.g. incident investigations managing safety alerts/recalls proactively identifying safety-relates issues).
- Performs cross-functional and/or other duties consistent with the job classification as assigned or requested.
- Works in compliance of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and its regulations reporting hazards deficiencies and contraventions of the Act in a timely manner.
Qualifications :
- Completion of a 3-year community college program in Biomedical Engineering Technology Electronics Technology (or recognized equivalent) is required
- At a minimum 1 year of practical and related experience is required
- Membership in the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (OACETT) or other equivalent provincial technology association is an asset
- Certification as a Biomedical Engineering Technologist through the ACI is an asset
- Membership in provincial or national clinical/biomedical engineering society (e.g. Clinical Engineering Society of Ontario (CESO) Canadian Medical and Biological Engineering Society (CMBES)) is an asset
- Strong problem recognition and problem-solving skills in a technical field
- Strong interpersonal skills and customer service skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong time management and organizational skills with the ability to manage deadlines
- Strong ability to work effectively as a team member and build working relationships with other colleagues
- Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a fast-paced environment
- Commitment to patient care and safety
- Can-do and open-minded attitude ability to pivot when needed
- Ability to absorb new information quickly
- Strong computer skills including reporting (e.g. Excel) and Microsoft 365 Applications
