Job Description
The successful candidate(s) will be part of the research environment within Civil and Architectural Engineering and carry out research related to the new research programme called Civil Engineering and the Green Transition in the Built Environment (CEBE). SDU Civil and Architectural Engineering is co-leading the programmes research on existing structures in collaboration with Aarhus University and DTU. As a part of the CEBE research programme the successful candidate(s) will join a highly ambitious initiative involving extensive national and international collaboration with leading academic institutions and industry partners.
The primary responsibilities of the position(s) include research teaching and supervision. Focusing on research within the areas of the research program e.g. on extending the life of existing structures. Furthermore the candidate(s) will supervise PhD and MSc students involved in the CEBE research programme in close collaboration with the other researchers involved in the successful candidate(s) will be part of a vibrant and growing research environment with strong ties to industry offering opportunities for applied research and innovation.
The research activities will be linked to the educational programmes in Civil Engineering where the selected candidate(s) will contribute to teaching and supervision in the areas of structural engineering.
Research focus areas of the research group
The successful candidate(s) will be part of the research group SDU Structures. The research combines analytical numerical and experimental research. The experimental research is predominantly carried out in the SDU Structures laboratory which is equipped with state-of-the-art testing and data acquisition equipment for structural testing. Within the CEBE research programme the group will be active within the following areas:
Teaching
The position involves participation in teaching activities including teaching structural engineering courses and supervising student projects in the Civil Engineering programmes. SDU Structures contribute significantly to the following educational programmes:
The selected candidate will be enrolled in the Lecturer Training Programme at SDU to strengthen the candidates educational and pedagogical skills.
Qualifications
In addition experience in innovation and bringing research results to the market will be highly valued as well as experience with teaching structural engineering courses.

Tenure Track at the Faculty of Engineering SDU
The Faculty of Engineering at SDU offers an attractive tenure track programme for promising scholars with strong research achievements and high potential for reaching an international level of excellence. Candidates enter at the assistant professor level and upon successful completion will be promoted to a permanent position associate professor subject to a positive assessment by an expert committee. Indicators of relevant scholarly merits include documented independent scholarly output ground-breaking publications achievement of excellence grants and international research network.
The programme includes annual performance reviews a midterm evaluation by an expert panel and a final academic assessment. If the final assessment is positive the candidate will be offered a permanent position as associate professor. If the final evaluation is negative the assistant professor may request one additional assessment within the last six months of employment. The employment period may be extended in connection with maternity paternity or adoption leave.
Conditions of employment
Appointment as a tenure track assistant professor is temporary and for an initial 5-year period with guaranteed assessment for a permanent position as associate professor before the end of the employment period. The preferred start date is from August 2026.
During employment the tenure track assistant professor will complete theLecturer Training Programme.
Employment as a tenure track assistant professor requiresacademic qualifications at a minimum of PhD level at the time of employment. Employment will be in accordance with the collective agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations for academics in the state including the associated circular on the protocol for the job structure for academic staff at Danish universities and the provisions for tenure track assistant professor as described therein.Further information on salary and taxation.Persons employed in the position may based on a specific individual managerial assessment be exempted from time registration also known as a self-organizer.
