Description

A Fire Prevention Specialist works to prevent fires and minimize damage when they occur. They inspect buildings to find fire hazards and ensure everything is up to code. They install fire alarms and other safety devices. They also teach people how to respond during a fire. The goal is always to protect lives and property.

Fire Prevention Specialists prepare detailed reports after inspecting buildings. They note any fire hazards they find and suggest improvements. Responsibilities

Conduct routine inspections maintenance and testing of fire alarm systems sprinkler systems and fire extinguishers.

Install and calibrate fire detection and suppression equipment.

Perform preventive maintenance on fire systems and prepare detailed reports on the status of fire protection systems.

Respond to fire alarms and assist in fire suppression efforts as required.

Ensure compliance with local state and federal fire codes and regulations.

Conduct safety audits and inspections to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety regulations.

Develop and implement safety plans tailored to the specific needs of the workplace.

Provide safety training to employees on safety procedures and protocols.

Investigate accidents and incidents to ascertain causes and make recommendations for future prevention.

Collaborate with management to develop safety protocols and ensure a safe working environment.

The Fire Prevention Specialist can be asked to perform additional duties beyond the primary responsibilities as listed above.

The role can require to be available for work outside the normal hours regardless of whether the incumbent are actually called into work.

Requirements

Upper secondary education in a related field.

Preferably 2 years of relevant working experience in fire prevention and protection or in a related field.

Certification as a Fire Inspector 1 or the ability to obtain within first 2 years of employment (provided the training courses were started within the first 2 years of employment this requirement can be extended after CHRM approval).

Fire Prevention 1 and 2 or the ability to obtain within first 2 years of employment (provided the training courses were started within the first 2 years of employment this requirement can be extended after CHRM approval).

CP 1 Health and Safety Certification or the ability to obtain within first 2 years of employment (provided the training courses were started within the first 2 years of employment this requirement can be extended after CHRM approval).

Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Ability to read and interpret technical manuals blueprints and electrical schematics.

Affinity with active fire protection.

Strong knowledge of fire prevention and protection principles codes and regulations.

Language requirement: English: SLP 2222; French: SLP 2222.
