GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Under direction of the school principal plans and provides for appropriate learning experiences for students. Provides an atmosphere and environment conducive to the intellectual physical social and emotional development of individuals to ensure success for every student. Supervises students in a variety of school related settings. Monitors and evaluates student outcomes. Communicates and interacts with students parents staff and community. Develops selects and modifies instructional plans and materials to meet the needs of all students. Maintains appropriate records and follows required procedures and practices. Monitors appropriate use and care of equipment materials and facilities.
ESSENTIAL TASKS

- Prepares for assigned classes using the state/city curriculum frameworks; shows evidence of preparation upon request of administrators.
- Uses a variety of assessment instruments and evaluates students progress on a regular basis.
- Plans and develops strategies to infuse technology with teaching and learning. Develops and maintains a classroom environment conducive to learning through effective classroom management.
- Diagnoses test data and determines follow-up recommendations for increased student achievement.
- Collaborates with other professional personnel to provide needed services to identified groups of students to include but not limited to special education gifted ELL and 504.
- Discusses students problems and progress with parents maintaining confidentiality. Maintains an active Career and Technical Student Organization (CTSO).
- Maintains industry certification where required.
- Accurately identifies program concentrators for state reports.
- Updates student competency reports.
- Prepares and submits all required CTE reports in a timely manner including testing reports competency reports and student follow-up reports.
- Maintains an inventory of all equipment purchased with federal funds.
- Works with academic teachers to provide integrated projects/activities in the CTE classroom.
- Submits required field trip requests and leave forms in accordance with board timelines and policies.
- Fosters cooperative social behavior and supervises activities that assist students in forming satisfying relationships with other students and adults.
- Is available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when requested to do so.
- Represents the school and community in a positive manner.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
A license or certification as a professional practitioner in the area in which one is to be teaching if applicable or can demonstrate competency in the area of trade and industrial education one is to be teaching; at least a journeyman level in two of the four areas with extensive experience in the others. Knowledge of RCPS curriculum and techniques for integrating curriculum RCPS policies and effective instructional practices; thorough understanding of the teaching and learning process; ability to provide instruction that reflects multiple perspectives and multicultural education; ability to infuse technology into curriculum; ability to work effectively with administrators colleagues central office school based staff students parents and community; excellent oral and written communication and human relations skills.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Must be HVAC industry certified (EPA) and have a minimum of 3 years in the HVAC filed to be eligible for a Virginia Teachers License. Holds current OSHA 10 certification (OSHA 500 preferred) NCCER CORE certification. Candidates must meet all of the requirements set forth by the Virginia Department of Education to earn a Provisional or full Technical Professional License.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Significant standing walking moving climbing carrying bending kneeling crawling reaching handling pushing and pulling. Handles trades workers equipment and materials. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential tasks.
WORK ENVIORNMENT
Primarily controlled temperature and clean classroom environment.
Some work may include outside work environments where both controlled temperature settings and hot or cold temperature extremes can exist. Physical hazards exist in using hand and power tools and equipment.
