JOB DESCRIPTION: Building Principal Middle/High School

TITLE: Middle/High School Building Principal

REPORTS TO: Superintendent

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

1. State of Michigan Secondary Teaching Certificate

2. A minimum of 5 years teaching experience

3. State of Michigan Administrative Certificate

4. Masters Degree in educational administration curriculum supervision or related discipline

5. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable

CONTRACT AND SALARY The contract and salary consideration for the Building Principal shall be under the provisions of the Professional Salary Plan with related adjustments as provided by the Board of Education.

GOALS

1. To assist teachers in the application of goals and objectives into meaningful learning experiences for each individual student in the district.

2. To provide leadership coordination communication and innovation so that each student may derive maximum benefit from the continuing pursuit of education.

DUTIES

1. Be the administrative office for the building and see that all Board and Administrative policies are carried out. The Building Principal shall be immediately responsible to the Superintendent for the organization administration and supervision of the building.

2. Be responsible for the supervision of all administrative detail relating to classified personnel assigned to the building and for their work. The Building Principal shall evaluate the services of such employees under their supervision.

3. Keep the Superintendent or his designee informed as to the condition of the school building and any needs or activities.

4. Be responsible for the improvement of the schools curriculum and for planning and adapting the courses of study and materials of instruction to the needs and interests of the students.

5. Be responsible for the cooperative development of public relations within the community.

6. Be responsible for utilizing community resources to enrich the learning program.

7. Take an active interest in local. State and national professional organizations to promote professional improvement and render greater services.

8. Be responsible for the health safety and welfare of the students and staff members in the building.

9. Organize lunchroom and noon-hour activities to provide for the safety and welfare of the students.

10. Conduct student safety and emergency drills; direct building equipment inspection; and assume responsibility for such activities as may be required by law by the Board or by the Superintendent.

11. Assist the Superintendent in recommending the hiring of needed staff. The Building Principal shall assign the teaching staff and determine that each staff member has an equitable amount of class and extra-class work.

12. Submit to the Superintendents office signed evaluations of teachers covering such areas as classroom performance teaching skills professional behavior personality factors and character in the manner recommended by the Superintendent and approved by the Board of Education.

13. Involve the schools certified staff in the continuing appraisal and evaluation of the instructional program.

14. Work cooperatively with the teaching staff and the school community for the best interest of the students and look upon supervision as a cooperative process involving classroom teachers.

15. Prepare an estimate of needs of the school building for the annual budget and furnish such supporting information as may be requested or required by the Superintendent.

16. Be responsible for requisitioning (within budget limitations in the manner established) supplies textbooks equipment and all materials and services necessary for the safe and efficient operation of the school.

17. Be responsible for all monies collected in the school and make quarterly reports to the Superintendent concerning collections and disbursements for all funds for which the Building Principal is responsible.

18. Be responsible for the classification promotion or retention of pupils consulting with other district personnel when necessary.

19. Be responsible for the conduct of the pupils in the school and suspend if necessary serious offenders.
